Defining Moment: Christian Worldview vs. Secularism in America
Fruit—the effect or consequences of an action or operation
Note the contrasting fruits (consequences) of Christian Worldview and Secularism in America
And the work of righteousness shall be peace; and the effect of righteousness shall be quietness and assurance forever. ~Isaiah 32:17
And the ransomed of the Lord shall return, and come to Zion with songs and everlasting joy upon their heads: they shall obtain joy and gladness, and sorrow and sighing shall flee away. ~Isaiah 35:10
Fruits of Christian Ministries
The Christian government under the reign of the judges in ancient America practiced religious tolerance; a person could not be punished for his beliefs. In our modern society, also based on Christianity, everyone is free to believe as he chooses.
The fruits of that society which honors God, include liberty, right to life, peace, order, and a considerable degree of justice and mercy.
Hugo E. Martinez
On September 21, 1998, Hurricane Georges hit Puerto Rico, causing extensive damage. Sister Martinez, our five children, and I managed to survive that great storm and its hurricane-force winds by staying in our home. However, we went two weeks without running water and without power.
When our supply of water ran out, obtaining more was difficult. I will never forget the brethren who ministered to us by providing that precious liquid, nor will I forget the loving way the sisters also served us.
Germán Colón came to our house with a large plastic water container in a pickup truck. He told us he was doing it because, in his words, “I know you have little children who need water.” A couple of days later, Brothers Noel Muñoz and Herminio Gómez loaded three large water tanks onto a flatbed truck. They showed up at our house unexpectedly and filled every available water bottle with drinking water, also inviting our neighbors to fill theirs.
Our prayers were answered by their personal ministries. The faces of those three brethren reflected the love that Jesus Christ has for us, and their service—in other words, their personal ministry—brought much more than drinking water into our lives. To every son or daughter of God, knowing that people are interested in and watching out for his or her welfare is essential.
“I had been living in New York City for quite a while, and I started as a contributor of Fox News. I was starting to encounter conservatives on a regular basis. At that point I was living in this totally liberal, atheist world. I don’t even know if I had any friends who were believers of any sort.
“And I started dating somebody who went to a church in New York called Redeemer, which is Presbyterian, and evangelical church. I basically went out of curiosity and just really liked it. It was really interesting. The pastor, Tim Keller, is absolutely brilliant. After about a year it was just like, “This is it.” I can’t tell you how. People who knew me before say, “You’re just the last person, truly the last person I’d have thought.” I had such almost contempt, I would say, for religious believers, and in particular evangelicals.
“I’m around a lot of people who are different, who think differently than I do, who are conservative, and who are not bigots and all those things that I was told Republicans were, and told that conservatives were, and told that Christians were. It’s interesting looking back, and it’s embarrassing, actually, just to admit how ignorant I was.”
Winning over the opposition by truth and persuasion …
You know, we had a caller in the last hour from Modesto, self-admitted former hater of your beloved host, me. She hated my guts. She’d never listened, she hated my guts. She was a tree hugger, environmentalist wacko, big lib, just hated me. And she told the story, she’s driving around one day by herself, and somehow, some way, the radio came on and I was on it. It was the first time she’d heard me, not just heard about me.
She said: “Dear Kathryn and Rush: Thank you for writing these books. It might be seen as –” now, listen to this. This is one of these things, I must admit, this is the kind of thing that really does totally surprise me. “Dear Kathryn and Rush: Thank you for writing these books. It might be seen as embarrassing, but I’m in my forties. I have a degree in chemistry and French from Smith College. I’m an MD. I run a national business, but I didn’t know much about American history. It’s likely that I fell prey to the ‘America is evil’ education in the seventies and eighties.
“ I’ve always loved America except during a liberal phase in college, but I never understood the miracle that is this country, was never told to me. I never had any appreciation for it. America was just there. But your books clearly show how morals and courage and Christian values led to the founding of America.
“America’s unlike any other country in the history of the world, and we are lucky to live here. Thank you both for opening my eyes to how special America is while many others seek to disparage her.”
Fruits of Secularism in America
The followers of modern secularism do not use their freedom to make positive contributions to society. Because they do not believe in God, there is no accountability. Consequences of their rejection of the Ten Commandments are: moral decline, destruction of the family, and attendant heart-rending effects on our children. If those troubled children grow up and continue in the socially deviant patterns of secularism, then future generations will enjoy neither freedom nor civilized society.
Not only is secularism inherently negative, but it fosters the limitations of others’ freedom. In the name of tolerance, secularists seek to impose their beliefs on others. And yet, having no tolerance for beliefs other than their own, secularists have succeeded in banning God from the schools, removing the Ten Commandments and nativity scenes from public places, misinforming many concerning the consequences of abortion, and creating a secular bias in the mainstream news media. These are some of their fruits ..
. . . destroying opposition by force, poisonous lies, and violence.
All that watch for iniquity shall be cut off: that make a man an offender for a word, and lay a snare for him that reproveth in the gate, [lay traps for those who testify against evil] and turn aside the just for a thing of nought. ~Isaiah 29:20-21
One person! One person driving a car in Pittsburgh sees the words ziggin’ and zaggin,’ says she’s offended, and the city just snaps to and says, “Fine. You’re offended? We don’t want to offend anybody. We’ll get rid of it.”
Silencing of Free Speech
It [liberal stifling of free speech] happened with Bill Maher when he criticized Muslim countries for essentially not being liberal enough. And the strong-arming came down on him and he was a “bigot” and a “racist.” They [the Left] didn’t want him to speak at Berkeley. The people doing it I call “the illiberal left”. They’re people who consider themselves liberal, but are completely illiberal, in the sense of the way they harass people and quell free speech and debate. They go after everybody. It’s not just conservatives, it’s anybody who takes a position that is not sufficiently in line with their sacred cow issues. It doesn’t matter who you are, if you are off-message on one thing, they will come after you, and they will try to destroy you and delegitimize you. They wil not argue with you on the merits. If there isn’t a stop to it, it’s gong to be horrible for the country. It’s already horrible. Most people …want to be left alone. ~Kirsten Powers
Savagery of 21st Century
~Limbaugh Letter, 10-14
By welcoming murderers and terrorists to the White House, Obama has greatly weakened America’s position of moral leadership. Voila: increased aggression, lawlessness, and violence all over the globe.
World in Chaos
In August 2014, Obama hosted Congo President Joseph Kabila, one of the world’s worst thugs, at the U.S.-Africa Leaders Summit. In “Obama’s Double Standards for Dictators” in Forbes, Richard Miniter declares the Cong “the rape capital of the world,” with Kabila’s forces the main culprits in the kidnapping, rape, and mutilation of girls as young as 18 months. Kabila is also linked to roving death squads terrorizing North Kivu province. Instead of being ostracized by the White House, Kabila was afforded full military honors when he arrived at Andrews Air Force Base. By welcoming murderers and terrorists to the White House, Obama has greatly weakened America’s position of moral leadership. Voila: increased aggression, lawlessness, and violence all over the globe.
In August 2008, before Obama was inaugurated, there were 1,102 individuals killed by Islamic terrorist attacks. In August 2014, after six years of Obama’s “leading from behind,” there were 4,143 individuals killed by Islamic terrorist attacks, and thousands wounded.
Islamic War on Women
“From ISIS-captured t territory in Syria, we saw a photograph of a line of women, covered from head to toe and tied to one another by a rope, as they were being led to a makeshift slave market. Little girls, who were going to school and playing with dolls before ISIS fighters arrived at their doorstep, were married off to men many times their age.” ~ Haleh Esfandiari, The Wall Street Journal, 9/2/14
“We have witnessed scores of cases of rape and also selling of women as slaves in a market in Mosul for the price of 100,000 Iraqi dinars (about $80).” ~Safia Al Souhail, “Barbarians: ISIS’s Moratl Threat to Women,” Wilson Center, August 2014
“[Pro-Russian] armed groups continue to commit killings, abductions, physical and psychological torture, ill treatment, executions, murder, and other serious human rights abuses.” ~UN Ukraine Report, Haaretz, 8/29/14
U.S. Border Violence
Aiding and abetting. And not just on our southern border. All over the world. ~Limbaugh
“Every day he [Obama] allows this to continue he enriches the cartels. He enriches the gangs. He is actively aiding and abetting the cartels and the gangs who are smuggling these people into the country.” ~Rosemary Jenks, NumbersUSA spokeswoman, noting that Obama unilaterally enacting his 2012 Deferred Action for Childhood Arrivals [DACA] has been a boost for criminals, Breitbart News, 7/28/14
