Communist destruction of American Culture, attack on American religious freedom
Were priestcraft to be enforced [government-imposed religion, including atheism] among this people it would prove their entire destruction. ~Alma 1:12
“The Communist Manifesto” spoke of “abolition of the family.”
Once upon a time, Communist Party USA booted out gays like Harry Hay, founder of the Mattachine Society. And, the likes of Fidel Castro—who, amazingly, is reportedly also now an advocate of gay marriage—once tossed homosexuals in insane asylums. Not anymore. There has been a fundamental transformation.
In the People’s World, in an article titled “Indiana ‘religious freedom’ bill: bad for state and my family,” a mother of a lesbian daughter wrote:
“As a taxpaying citizen, it appalls me that our legislators used my tax dollars to create, lobby for, and now defend a law that opens the door for discrimination against gay and lesbian citizens and visitors. Governor Pence insists that this law is about protecting religious freedoms from the government, yet the law’s language . . . does not support that statement.”
It’s a heartfelt piece by an upset mother who says Pence and friends have broken her heart by passing a law permitting “discrimination” and opposing “civil rights.” In truth, of course, the law seeks to preserve civil rights—the First Amendment religious rights of religious believers.
I feel for this mother, but I also feel for that mother or grandmother or daughter who does not want to lose her family business simply because a gay couple will not go elsewhere for a wedding cake that she cannot make in good conscience because her faith states that gay marriage is wrong.
I ask the mother of the lesbian to try to visually imagine a baker being literally forced by the state to place two female figurines atop a wedding cake in violation of her conscience. Picture the baker’s trembling hands and crying eyes as she is compelled to do this.
That’s not right. I could never, as a Christian, command a Jewish or Muslim baker or caterer to serve my wedding on a day or with a type of food that violates their faith teachings.
I would feel awful if I did that. Liberals of yesteryear would have agreed with me on that, as would (I imagine) most gay people. But if the affront is now aimed at Christians I support of gay rights, they’ll apparently wield this force happily without hesitation.
Anyway, back to the People’s World: There have been a remarkable number of pro-gay marriage articles published there in recent months and years, not to mention many posts at the website of Communist Party USA. Gay marriage is now commonly touted in keynote speeches and statements by CPUSA officials, including its general secretary, Sam Webb. There are too many of them to recount here; but their thrust is eye-opening. We now have a situation where American communists are totally and firmly in the gay-marriage camp.
War on the Family
Why would this be? When did it happen? There are many reasons, which I chronicle in my coming book, but among them, the most significant (if not chilling) is this: For two centuries, communists and other leftist radicals have been seeking to take down natural-traditional-biblical marriage and the family.
Since the early 1800s, they have made their arguments and tried different tactics. “The Communist Manifesto” spoke of “abolition of the family.” At long last, however, communists have the vehicle to make it happen: gay marriage—a 21st century novelty utterly without precedent in human history. Now, as the legal definition of marriage rapidly changes, the floodgates will open to all sorts of new configurations.
Their efforts to redefine the family structure have been long at work, starting with Karl Marx and Friedrich Engels and moving on to the Bolsheviks, to cultural Marxists from the Frankfurt School such as Herbert Marcuse and Wilhelm Reich, and on to more modern Marxists such as Betty Friedan, Kate Millett and assorted ‘60s radicals. (See: Who Stole American Culture?)
Those leftist extremists, however, never made much headway in their efforts to re-define family and marriage. Only now, with formal legalization of same-sex marriage afoot, they are finally getting what they’ve wanted for multiple generations: the literal redefinition of family.
To be sure, Marx and Engels would be speechless at the idea of two men marrying each other. They would be equally baffled that mainstream Americans now gladly join them in rejecting the biblical design for natural marriage and family. Nonetheless, this is where the culture now stands.
Church and State: War on Religion
And perhaps most fascinating of all, communists then and today would be shocked but delighted to find that gay marriage has provided them a stunningly effective tool in attacking what the far left has always hated most: religion.
Marx and Engels and friends would be absolutely thrilled that gay marriage is offering a sledgehammer not only to remold the family, but to bludgeon religious believers. It’s an amazing sight to behold. It has been a long time coming.
