I NEVER THOUGHT I’D BE ABLE TO SAY I’M THANKFUL FOR MY TRIALS, but it’s possible. I’ve observed rather extensively the trials of others, and I’ll take mine, and be thankful. A sweet friend of mine has had neuropathy for 20 years. It involves a great deal of pain in one aspect, but in another, the person can’t feel anything in the feet or other extremities. This can be dangerous; if you can’t feel pain, you could really injure yourself and not even know it. And yet this friend remains an example of cheerfulness; it keeps me humble.
A person can react to trials in two ways. You can be bitter and curse God, or you can be humbled, and cultivate a sense of reverence and gratitude.
In His infinite love for us, God gave us three marvelous gifts for which we can never thank Him enough. First is the gift of free will. We do not have to be victims of our circumstances—we can choose how we will act. We can choose to act, and not be acted upon. However, there is another eternal law that cannot be broken. We are free to choose, but we cannot choose the consequences.
Because God knew we would make wrong choices, He provided a way for us to not be destroyed by those inevitable consequences. The second gift is that act of infinite love in which Jesus Christ made the ultimate sacrifice to free us from sin.
The other day we were talking about the love of Christ. We all learn in church that Jesus loves us unconditionally. What does that mean? Generally it is said to mean that no matter what we do, He still loves us. If you are a parent, you know the depth of love you feel for your children. Think about your own parents—how much they love you. But did they get upset with you sometimes? And when they showed their disappointment in you, did they still love you?
I suggest that our Father in Heaven can still get upset with us if we won’t repent. That doesn’t mean He doesn’t love us; it means that He mourns for us, because he knows we will reap sorrow. Just as our own children must pay the consequences if they break civil or spiritual law, we know they must face it, even though it breaks our heart. So it is with God. Our Heavenly Father is not a law-breaker; that’s why He sent His Son to satisfy the Eternal law.
Thus the third great gift is repentance. Perhaps it is even the greatest gift of all, for it is our key to heaven. Without that key, Jesus’ excruciating sacrifice is in vain, and we remain locked out of His presence.
Thus, if we truly love our children unconditionally, we will never enable them in sin, but rather we will guide them to choose the right, and to correct their course when necessary, knowing that repentance is the key to true happiness.
So today, and every day, we can be everlastingly thankful for God’s plan of happiness, and all the blessings we receive daily at His loving hand.
Giving thanks to God is an integral part of American history and culture. We remember our many reasons to be thankful with the real Thanksgiving story, George Washington’s Thanksgiving Proclamation, the American Covenant, Charlie Brown’s Thanksgiving, and several hymns with uplifting words.
Veterans Day need not be the only time to remember to honor our heroes. See how you can regularly provide cheer to those who sacrifice greatly for our freedom.
Let us be thankful for the hard-won liberty we enjoy in the greatest country in the world by not giving up, so that their sacrifices are not in vain.

The Tea Party is one of many groups who are working diligently to preserve and protect our freedom. From now on, instead of Tea Party updates, we will direct your attention to priority news items.
Right now, the pivotal issue is immigration. I have been voting in elections for decades, and except for Ronald Reagan, I have never seen or heard anything but promises, empty promises. I have never seen a candidate present a specific, written plan on anything, let alone something as pressing as immigration, which is foremost on everyone’s minds except Washington politicians. Donald Trump is absolutely right when he says that a nation without borders or laws is not a nation. If you have not already done so, please review this post. It is sensible and encouraging.
“Defining Moments” is a monthly feature. Kind of a fancy name for a glossary. When I was growing up, we had a huge dictionary on a tall, narrow, rolling table. Whenever we asked the meaning of a word, we were told to “look it up.” We still do that. You’d be surprised at some of the interesting things you find in the dictionary, especially the 1828 American Dictionary.
Now, with all the twists and spins that politicians and the media do to common words, it’s valuable to go back to the original meaning. It can make for interesting conversation, too.

Traditional Bible-believing parents may have to consider withdrawing their children from public schools to protect your family spiritually and financially from the rising tide of persecution and ruinous lawsuits by anti-Christian fascists.
If it is not possible for you to home school, try to teach your children Judeo-Christian values at home.
