Culture Wars: Political Correctness, Multiculturalism, and Charter Schools
How do you conquer a nation without firing a shot?

Progressives vs. Western Civilization
Leading Progressives like John Dewey came up with the answer over a century ago. Just embed your agenda into the educational system, and in a few generations you will transform the country.
Political Progressives had little use for America’s founding principles. Woodrow Wilson, the first progressive president, complained that “some citizens of this country have never got beyond the Declaration of Independence,” and said the Declaration was “of no consequence” to modern Americans. This view now dominates in our public schools.
And educational Progressives had little use for traditional teaching methods and purposes. Rather than teaching the Great Books of the Western tradition, Dewey recommended education as social development. The past century has seen curricular and teaching excellence replaced with short-lived theories rarely lasting more than a generation.
As a result, many public schools are no longer effective at teaching reading, writing, and arithmetic. They also no longer teach young Americans the history of their country—how it was founded on the principle of equal rights, and how it grew to become the freest and most prosperous nation in history.
Good citizenship is impossible without this knowledge about America, and as a result our liberty is fading fast.
That’s why Hillsdale has launched the Barney Charter School Initiative: to answer the urgent need for fundamental reform of American K-12 education. After just five years, the initiative has helped found 13 charter schools nationwide, with a goal of opening fifty schools by 2022—each one based on a classical liberal arts curriculum, and each one including a strong history and civics component.
This initiative is flourishing—but the need for expansion is great. Thank you for your partnership and all you do for liberty.

Why we need homeschooling
At Brooklyn public elementary school St. Nick was banned, the Pledge of Allegiance was dropped and Thanksgiving was replaced with a “harvest festival.”
If more of us would stand up to PC tyrants like this, our society would be much happier and freer.
Sanity — and Santa — have been restored at a Brooklyn public elementary school where St. Nick was banned, the Pledge of Allegiance was dropped and Thanksgiving was replaced with a “harvest festival.”
The good news arrived at PS 169 in Sunset Park on Monday morning, a day after The Post exposed the bizarre PC extremism of Principal Eujin Jaela Kim.
District 15 Superintendent Anita Skop stormed in the front door at 9:50 a.m., and minutes later, two fifth-grade boys were brought to the main office to lead a recital over the public address system of the Pledge of Allegiance, teachers told The Post.
As The Post reported on Sunday, the pledge hadn’t been said over the loudspeakers since the beginning of the school year. Kim, 33, became principal in May 2014.
Santa Claus is now reinstated at the school, and Department of Education officials said on Monday that the Pledge of Allegiance will be recited over the PA system every morning, in response to concerns from the community.
RUSH: Have you heard about…? This is sick. Folks, it’s sick, but it is such a teachable moment. It’s an illustration of an ongoing circumstance that people are fed up with and are beginning to stand up to, and it’s gonna be very, very contentious. A school principal in a New York public school — Public School 169 in Sunset Park, Brooklyn — has banned Santa Claus, Thanksgiving, and the Pledge of Allegiance. And I was watching on Fox today as a woman from ThinkProgress or whatever it is, and defended this.
“Santa Claus is banned. The Pledge of Allegiance is no longer recited. ‘Harvest festival’ has replaced Thanksgiving, and ‘winter celebrations’ substitute for Christmas parties. New principal Eujin Jaela Kim,” I think she’s Korean, “has given PS 169 in Sunset Park, Brooklyn, a politically correct scrub-down, to the dismay of teachers and parents. … Ninety-five percent of the 1,600 kids at PS 169 are Asian or Hispanic,” and these traditions have simply been wiped. They’re no longer permitted, because of the multiculturalists, the PC crowd, the American left.
This is part and parcel of who they are. This country is unjust, it is immoral, it’s invalid, and all of these traditions are nothing more than propaganda poisoning people, and we’ve got to get rid of ’em. They are part of “the white patriarchal hierarchy,” is what these people believe, and if it has roots in white majority power, it has got to go. It has got to be scrubbed. And it’s happening all over the country, little by little, inch by inch, place by place. This is one of the reasons, things like this are one of the reasons why homeschooling is exploding. And it’s one of the reasons why we need homeschooling.
There is no other way to protect your kids from this kind of tyranny, and that’s exactly what this is. You have screwballs like this elementary school principal.
