American Covenant with God

Culture Wars

Dear Friends,

Welcome to Epicworld Dinner Topics!

THIS IS A CHOICE LAND, AND WHATSOEVER NATION SHALL POSSESS IT SHALL BE FREE FROM BONDAGE, IF THEY WILL BUT SERVE THE GOD OF THE LAND, WHO IS JESUS CHRIST. (Ether 2:12)

This was the first American covenant with God. It was a covenant between God and ancient descendants of the house of Israel, who migrated to Central America around 600 BC and became the first known Native Americans. Those people broke the covenant, and by the time Cortez found them in the 16th century, they had degenerated into the despicable practice of human sacrifice.

Most Christians are aware of the covenants we make with our Heavenly Father as individuals. But God also makes covenants with entire nations. Why? Because God will not leave his appointed leaders unprotected. He takes His followers and molds them into a powerful, covenant nation. He gives this nation the necessary tools to stand up and push back against the world’s tyrannies who are Satan’s minions, and who seek to thwart the Lord’s plan of salvation for His children.

covenant2                The covenant nation provides the needed environment for His disciples to advance His cause. The national liberty of a covenant nation allows us to freely choose to worship Him instead of being forced to follow Satan’s plan of misery.

What does God ask in exchange for the marvelous blessings of liberty and prosperity? Only that his people acknowledge the hand of their Creator, and obey His commandments.

When Columbus discovered the American continents, he humbly claimed it for the Lord. This prepared the foundation for the formation of the United States. When George Washington led Americans to victory in the Revolutionary War, then founded our constitutional republic, he restored America’s covenant with God.

But the battle for freedom is not over. The War in Heaven was fought over the principle of free will, and rages on earth today, more violently than ever.

covenant3-society           We can’t expect to enjoy the blessings of liberty if we do not defend and fight for them every day. While we were sleeping, the enemy poisoned our schools and succeeded in kicking God out of those schools. As a result, the students in those schools have grown up and brought a great curse upon this land. Today we find ourselves repeating history—practicing human sacrifice in the form of abortion, every bit as savage and barbaric as the benighted Aztecs. And the extent of moral perversion rampant in this land makes Sodom and Gomorrah pale in comparison.

What is to be done?

First, we must start in our own homes. We see everywhere the bitter fruits of permissiveness and moral relativism. It is urgent that we teach our children REPENTANCE—that repentance is a gift, the key to mercy and real happiness. Let us teach our children the great heritage that is their birthright. Only character education based on biblical values can establish the foundation for lasting happiness. Let us take responsibility for the education of our own children, instead of ceding that sacred trust to the godless institutions that our schools have become.

change-of-heart3           Now, it is time for a national revival—to humble ourselves, to turn once again to God, the Father of our souls, to rid ourselves of the ugly pride that is causing our destruction, and to restore the American covenant with God.

There are many, many of you out there—decent people who want the best for your families. Don’t ever give up. The Lord is there for you.

“No matter how serious the trial, how deep the distress, how great the affliction, [God] will never desert us. He never has, and he never will. He cannot do it. It is not His character [to do so]. . . .He will [always] stand by us. We may pass through the fiery furnace; we may pass through deep waters; but we shall not be consumed nor overwhelmed. We shall emerge from all these trials and difficulties the better and purer for them.” (George Q. Cannon)

Stress Relief Tip of the Month: Just say No!

noStay away from illegal drugs, right? Everyone knows that. What many may not know, unfortunately, is that some prescription drugs have serious side effects and can be devastating, as well. I have seen this firsthand. Someone I know took an anti-depressant, not because she had a chemical imbalance, but because she wanted a quick, easy way to be “happy,” and because her friends had been trying to get her to do it for years.

Ironically, the side effects of anti-depressants—suicidal thoughts, hostility—don’t sound like a good way to overcome depression to me. This person’s personality changed dramatically. Within four months of beginning that medication, she had divided and spiritually destroyed her family, and it’s irreversible, because she won’t stop taking the drug.

Beware! Just because a drug may be prescribed by a medical professional does not mean it is safe for you. Those who have chemical imbalances can be helped under the care of health professionals. However, professionals should clearly warn about the side effects of mind-altering drugs, and not blithely prescribe them without regard to deleterious consequences.

Now, if you simply are not happy, look first to yourself—true happiness is a matter of character, of taking responsibility for our own actions. Are you seeking happiness in the form of passing pleasures and self-gratification? Are you unhappy because you are offended?

jesus-repentance              If so, there is no chemical that will fix your problem, so just say No! to drugs, prescription or not. But you can rest assured that true happiness is well within your grasp. The solution is simple, but not easy. It’s called repentance. Have courage to face the truth about yourself. Don’t look to worldly soothsayers or “friends”—well-intentioned or not—to excuse you from doing the right thing. Turn to your Christian leader. He will help you strengthen your moral compass and access the mercy you need through the love of Christ.

Try it! I promise you it works miracles, for I’ve done it myself, countless times over the years, and sometimes daily. And I know many others who use this remedy constantly, with deeply satisfying results that no manmade, chemical formula can ever provide.

May you feel the great peace and joy that comes as the atonement of our Savior Jesus Christ frees you from the bondage of sin.

Theme Quotes for July: American Covenant with God

If my people . . . shall humble themselves, and pray, and seek my face, and turn from their wicked ways; then will I hear from heaven, and will forgive their sin, and will heal their land. 2 Chronicles 7:14

God made man free—and then gave him the commandments to keep him free. We cannot break the Ten Commandments. We can only break ourselves against them—or else, by keeping them, rise through them to the fullness of freedom under God. ~Cecil B. De Mille

covenant4-true-faithI, the Lord, am bound when ye do what I say; but when ye do not what I say, ye have no promise. Doctrine and Covenants 82:10

True to the faith that our parents have cherished,

True to the truth for which martyrs have perished,

To God’s command,

Soul, heart, and hand,

Faithful and true we will ever stand.

~Evan Stephens

We are familiar with covenants we make as individuals. This is similar, but it’s a covenant made, not between God and one of His children, but between God and an entire nation. He will grant His nations the liberty, protection, and prosperity . . . but He expects something in return. He expects general obedience from His people in these special lands. The leaders of these special lands need to understand this covenant so they can lead the people to righteousness and thus to the blessings of heaven. ~Timothy Ballard

Truth will ultimately prevail where there are pains taken to bring it to light. ~George Washington

seal-of-the-united-states-originalTyranny is so generally established in the rest of the world that the prospect of an asylum in America for those who love liberty gives general joy . . . It is a common observation here that our cause is the cause of all mankind, and that we are fighting for their liberty in defending our own. ~Benjamin Franklin

I am well aware of the toil and blood and treasure that it will cost us to maintain this Declaration and support and defend these states. Yet through all the gloom I can see the rays of ravishing light and glory. I can see that the end is worth more than all the means. ~John Adams

They tell us, sir, that we are weak. But when shall we be stronger? Will it be next year? Will it be when we are totally disarmed and a guard stationed in every house? Shall we gather strength by irresolution and inaction? Sir, we are not weak if we make proper use of those means which the God of nature has placed in our power. ~Patrick Henry

Seeing the widespread injury done in any given week, (many incidents go unreported), stay aware of important news and insights at Epicworld Dinner Topics.

Traditional Bible-believing parents may have to consider withdrawing their children from public schools to protect your family spiritually and financially from the rising tide of persecution and ruinous lawsuits by anti-Christian fascists.

If it is not possible for you to home school, try to teach your children Judeo-Christian values at home. The easiest way to do this is to tell stories and discuss principles at the family dinner table. I hope these dinner topics help you with this vital effort. Just don’t give up!
