VP-elect Pence could play major role in de-funding Planned Parenthood

Charlie Butts

It’s still two months until a new president takes the oath of office, but battle lines are already being drawn over Planned Parenthood.

abortion-defund-p-parenthoodDuring his campaign, President-elect Donald Trump stood firm on defunding Planned Parenthood, but said he would only support stripping the funds if the nation’s largest abortion-provider refuses to stop doing abortions. A fight over the funding is expected in Congress – but American Life League is hopeful that with Mike Pence as his vice president, Trump might be convinced to de-fund regardless.

“[Pence] was the guy who single-handedly in 2007 wrote the first amendment to a bill in Congress that specifically named Planned Parenthood and tried to take all the money away from them,” explains ALL spokesman Jim Sedlak. “So Mike Pence is an absolute opponent of Planned Parenthood – and we’re hoping that he will have an influence on Mr. Trump.”

Pence told a reporter in 2007:

“If Planned Parenthood wants to be involved in providing counseling services and HIV testing, they ought not be in the business of providing abortions. As long as they aspire to do that, I’ll be after them.”

President-elect Trump pledges to forgo his presidential salary during his time in the White House

President-elect Donald Trump says he will only accept $1 for his salary as president.

trump-thumbTrump made the comments during a sit-down interview with CBS “60 Minutes,” which aired in full Sunday evening. During the interview, the president-elect even admitted that he doesn’t even know what the president’s salary is.

“I’ve never commented on this, but the answer is ‘no,’” Trump said when asked by host Lesley Stahl whether or not he’ll accept the presidential salary.

“I think I have to by law take $1, so I’ll take $1 a year,” he added. “But it’s a — I don’t even know what it is. Do you know what the salary is?”

Stahl informed Trump that the current presidential salary is set at an annual rate of $400,000.

“No, I’m not going to take the salary. I’m not taking it,” Trump reiterated.

If Trump were to forgo the presidential salary, he would be only the third president in history to do so. Presidents Herbert Hoover and John F. Kennedy declined to accept their presidential salaries, instead donating it to charity.

National Security: Trump gets tough, looks to ban Muslim Brotherhood

President-elect Donald Trump is reportedly preparing to jumpstart a bill in Congress that would ban the Muslim Brotherhood by declaring it a terrorist organization.

Trump foreign-policy adviser Walid Pheres told Egyptian news outlet Youm7 that the legislation, introduced a year ago by U.S. Sen. Ted Cruz, R-Texas, was held up due to the Obama administration’s support of the group. But Trump plans to back the bill.

Cruz’s bill, the Muslim Brotherhood Terrorist Designation Act of 2015-16, identifies the Brotherhood and three of its offshoots, including the Council on American-Islamic Relations and Islamic Society of North America, as a terrorist organization.

The Brotherhood is already banned as a subversive organization in Russia and at least five Arab countries, including Syria, Saudi Arabia and its home base of Egypt. And the Brotherhood’s self-avowed “Palestine” branch – Hamas – was added to the U.S. State Department’s list of foreign terrorist organizations in 1997.

Former Rep. Michele Bachmann, who introduced similar legislation during her last term in office, said such action is long overdue. It has been clear since the Holy Land Foundation terror financing trial in 2007-08 that the Brotherhood is working through front groups toward an agenda of Islamic supremacy, which the Brotherhood calls “civilization jihad.”

“First, it is imperative to know the enemy,” Bachmann told WND. “The fundamental purpose of the Muslim Brotherhood is to supplant all societal structures, even in non-Islamic countries like the United States, with Islamic Shariah law.”

What do YOU think? Should Trump ban the Muslim Brotherhood from the U.S.? Sound off in today’s WND poll

When Bachmann introduced her legislation in 2012, she named Secretary of State Hillary Clinton’s top aide, Huma Abedin, as an example of the Muslim Brotherhood agents who have infiltrated the federal government. She came under intense pressure to drop the issue from both Democrats and Republicans. Among her critics was former Rep. Mike Rogers, R-Mich., who called Abedin “an American patriot.”

“I have no information in my committee that would indicate that Huma is anything other than an American patriot,” Rogers told USA Today in 2012.

Trump Invites Netanyahu To Visit White House ‘At First Opportunity’

netanyahu-and-republican-presidential-candidate-donald-trump-meetingTEL AVIV – Donald Trump on Wednesday invited Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu to visit the White House at the “first opportunity,” according to the Prime Minister’s Office.

The prime minister and president-elect “who have known each other for many years, had a warm, heartfelt conversation” over the phone, the statement said.

“President-elect Trump invited Prime Minister Netanyahu to a meeting in the United States at the first opportunity,” it said.

Netanyahu responded by saying that he and his wife Sara were excited to visit the incoming commander-in-chief and his wife Melania.

According to the PMO, regional issues were also discussed during the phone conversation, though no details were disclosed.

Earlier on Wednesday, Netanyahu congratulated Trump on his election victory, saying the Republican is “a true friend of the State of Israel.”

“We will work together to advance security, stability and peace in our region,” Netanyahu said in a statement.

“The bond between the U.S. and Israel is based on shared values, shared interests and a shared future. I am sure that President-elect Trump and I will continue to strengthen the unique bond between Israel and the U.S. and we will bring them to greater heights,” he added.

Trans-Pacific Partnership dead

Obama’s signature global trade deal won’t be ratified by Congress

liberal-flush_tppBarack Obama, upon taking over the White House in 2009, told Republicans bluntly that “elections have consequences” and proceeded to bulldoze over the opposing party’s priorities and requests.

This year, Donald Trump has not even taken the oath of office and some of those consequences are apparent.

For one, Obama’s long-sought dream of the Trans Pacific Partnership trade deal apparently is dead.

That’s according to Sen. Chuck Schumer, who likely will be the top Democrat in the incoming Senate.

The Hill reported the signals coming from Schumer to Obama are clear.

The report said Schumer “told the AFL-CIO executive council that lawmakers won’t ratify the Trans Pacific Partnership.”

“Schumer, who has voiced concerns that the deal doesn’t do enough to crack down currency manipulation, told CNBC’s John Harwood in mid-October that he thought the TPP ‘may well get’ 51 votes if Majority Leader Mitch McConnell, R-Ky., brought it to the floor in the lame-duck session,” the report said.

However, with Trump now preparing to move into the Oval Office, his well-known opposition to TPP is exerting more influence.

He said last summer, during the heat of the campaign, there appears to be “no way” to fix the deal.

House Speaker Paul Ryan, R-Wis., and Senate Majority Leader Mitch McConnell, R-Ky., already had expressed doubts about support for the deal.
