Republican Healthcare Plan and Obamacare Replacement

Conservatives dispute Ryan’s ‘binary choice’ on Obamacare

Offer alternative they contend already has passed Senate muster

Ryan contends there are certain provisions of Obamacare that can’t be repealed in his bill because of the Senate’s “Byrd Rule,” which stipulates that if a measure doesn’t impact federal finances, it can’t be struck from the bill unless a waiver is passed with a 60-vote supermajority. Republicans have only a 52-48 majority in the Senate.
But members of the House Freedom Caucus, along with senators such as Rand Paul, R-Ky.; and Mike Lee, R-Utah; argue the bill that passed Congress in 2015 through the reconciliation process and was vetoed by President Obama already has proved it can do the job of repealing Obamacare.
Earlier Tuesday, Ryan used his weekly press briefing to make a case for the GOP leadership’s bill,
The Freedom Caucus and its allies, however, believe there is a third way. They contend the leadership’s bill creates a new entitlement program through tax credits, and they oppose its expansion of Medicaid and its 30 percent premium penalty for those who choose to drop their insurance coverage for at least two months and want it reinstated.

Ryan said the second prong of the leadership’s plan would be to repeal Obamacare regulations via executive order, followed by passing legislation that would accomplish aims such as allowing people to purchase insurance across state lines.

“There are folks,” he continued, “who would love to see us put in this reconciliation bill all these other ideas,” but the measures would be filibustered because of Senate rules.

Lee’s spokesman, Carroll, reacted.

“I think it’s pretty funny that Paul Ryan is trying to tell us what the Senate rules are,” he told WND.

“When they passed the 2015 bill, they said they couldn’t get rid of the Medicaid expansion because of the Senate rules, and they were wrong,” he pointed out.

Ryan and his leadership are “in the House,” Carroll said, “and they should stick to the House rules, and they should leave what is doable in the Senate to us.”

Carroll said Lee met with Health and Human Services Secretary Tom Price Wednesday morning and had dinner with Vice President Pence that evening to discuss his differences with the leadership’s plan.

“Price seemed receptive to the changes that Senator Lee brought forward, but we’ll see if those are at all incorporated,” Carroll said.

Asked the senator’s response to the warning to House Republicans Tuesday from President Trump, who has endorsed the Ryan plan, that they would suffer an electoral “bloodbath” if they didn’t repeal and replace Obamacare, Carroll replied: “All the more reason we need to pass the 2015 repeal bill.”

Pro-Life Leaders Applaud Choice of Rep. Tom Price as HHS Nominee

National pro-life leaders are applauding President-elect Donald Trump’s pick of Republican Rep. Tom Price of Georgia for secretary of the Department of Health and Human Services (HHS).

“Chairman Price, a renowned physician, has earned a reputation for being a tireless problem solver and the go-to expert on healthcare policy, making him the ideal choice to serve in this capacity,” Trump said in a statement. “He is exceptionally qualified to shepherd our commitment to repeal and replace Obamacare and bring affordable and accessible healthcare to every American. I am proud to nominate him as Secretary of Health and Human Services.”

abortion3-pro-lifePrice, who has a 100 percent pro-life voting record, will likely not only play a major role in the repeal and replacement of Obamacare, but also in the redirection of taxpayer funds to health centers that do not perform abortions.

Brent Bozell, founder of the Media Research Center (MRC) released the following statement on Price’s nomination:

The appointment of Rep. Tom Price as Secretary of Health and Human Services is yet another excellent cabinet choice by President-elect Trump. Trump seems absolutely committed to honoring his pro-life commitments by selecting a man with a 100% pro-life record…And in choosing a pro-life cabinet member, Trump has disrupted the liberal media’s pro-abortion agenda, their single most important issue.

Susan B. Anthony List president Marjorie Dannenfelser also commented:

Representative Tom Price is an excellent choice for Secretary of Health and Human Services. He has a 100 percent pro-life record and is well positioned to champion truly comprehensive health care. He helped lead the charge to defund Planned Parenthood through budget reconciliation, setting the stage for President-elect Trump and a pro-life Congress to reallocate those funds to support comprehensive women’s healthcare. As HHS Secretary, he will play a key role in developing a robust health care reform proposal that protects life and consciences, while promoting options for low-income individuals and families.

stop-abortionSimilarly, Ashley McGuire, senior fellow with The Catholic Association, released the following statement:

President-elect Trump has made an excellent choice in Rep. Price as Secretary of HHS. In particular, Rep. Price’s strong pro-life values and record to match make him the right man to reform an agency that has been marred by its aggressive abortion agenda. The Department of HHS caused the largest religious liberty class-action lawsuit in American history when it tried to force religious employers and charities like the Little Sisters of the Poor to pay for and provide things like abortion pills in their healthcare plans. We are confident that Rep. Price will finally put an end to the anti-religious liberty HHS mandate, as well as introduce comprehensive reforms to restore the agency as one that genuinely promotes healthcare that respects human life and dignity.

Abortion chain Planned Parenthood and its CEO Cecile Richards, however, are denouncing the choice.

Syrian Nun Warns ‘Europe Has Let in Wolves’ With Migrant Policies

christian-persecution-hatuneA Syrian Orthodox nun, hailed as a “modern Mother Theresa” in the German media, has warned that Europe’s refugee policy allows “wolves” in and that devout Muslims pose a threat to the continent.

Sister Hatune Dogan, who has worked for 26 years helping Christians and Yazidis, said: “Europe has admitted the wolves, the sheep are still [in Syria and Iraq].”

“Wolves”, the nun explained, are the Muslim migrants living in Europe who despite courses in “European values” and integration continue to live according to the Koran.

wolf-in-sheeps-clothing-150x150Speaking of “sheep”, the nun said she was referring to persecuted Christian and Yazidi minorities in Muslim-dominated countries, and spoke of “mothers, the children and the orphans who haven’t enough money” to leave.

“I do not think that people who live [the values of the Koran] can be good for us,” she said, adding: “79 verses alone call for infidels to be killed”.

Noting that 96 per cent of people across the Middle East were Christians until the eighth century and that the figure is now just six per cent, Sister Hatune urged politicians to “wake up” and look more closely at the beliefs of the asylum seekers.

Women in Islamic societies have no value

In a recent lecture in Germany, Sister Hatune said women in Islamic societies “have no value. They are just there for the pleasure of the man, and even more so if they are unbelievers.”

slave-trade-ISISSpeaking about her years of aid work in Muslim countries, the sister recalled how she’d listen as women cried about wounds to their breasts and genitals. “All atrocities committed in the name of Allah,” Sister Hatune told the audience, adding: “Not since yesterday but for centuries.”

Dr Phyllis Chesler has written for Breitbart News about some of the work the sister and her charity, the Hatune Foundation, have done rescuing Christian and Yazidi girls from the clutches of Islamic State in Iraq.

Culture Wars, Ten Commandments and Western Civilization

Culture Wars:

The Ten Commandments protect Western Civilization

We Believe in Keeping the Ten Commandments

keyThey are not suggestions. They are every bit as requisite today as they were when God gave them to the children of Israel.”1 ~Thomas S. Monson

Moses and 10 cropThe Ten Commandments are found in the Old Testament (see Exodus 20:1–17), but Latter-day Saints know that those commandments apply in all ages, not just in Old Testament times. Abinadi taught the Ten Commandments in the Book of Mormon (see Mosiah 12:33–36; 13:13–24), and the Lord revealed them again to the Prophet Joseph Smith for our day (see D&C 42:18–29; 59:5–13).

Although people in many societies today disregard these commandments, we believe they are still in effect. President Thomas S. Monson explained:

“Behaviors which once were considered inappropriate and immoral are now not only tolerated but also viewed by ever so many as acceptable. …

“Although the world has changed, the laws of God remain constant. They have not changed; they will not change. The Ten Commandments are just that—commandments.

They are not suggestions. They are every bit as requisite today as they were when God gave them to the children of Israel.”1

We do not speak ill of others for not following the commandments. Rather, we look at our own lives and determine how well we live by the divine instruction we’ve been given.

The Ten Commandments represent basic standards of behavior that can be divided into two groups: how we treat God and how we treat others.

Because of God’s continued revelations to His prophets, we have learned more about what He expects of us, but the Ten Commandments remain a good place to start in our quest to be obedient. “[God’s] commandments are a manifestation of His love for us and obedience to His commandments is an expression of our love for Him.”2

“Which is the great commandment in the law?” See the Savior’s response in Matthew 22:37–40.

Here are some examples of living the commandments today:

golden-calfTo help us keep God at the center of our lives, He commands us to worship no other gods, to keep the Sabbath day holy, and to avoid blasphemy and idolatry.

  • “Thou shalt have no other gods before me” (Exodus 20:3). While most people are not tempted today to worship a golden calf, we should not worship “idols” such as prestige or material possessions (see 2 Nephi 9:30)

  • “Remember the sabbath day, to keep it holy (Exodus 20:8). Keeping the Sabbath day holy can help us learn to have an eye “single to [God’s] glory” (D&C 88:67).

To help us love God’s children, He commands us to honor our parents and to not steal, kill, lie, covet, or commit adultery.

  • “Honour thy father and thy mother” (Exodus 20:12). This can include honoring our ancestors, our parents, and our heavenly parents.
  • “Thou shalt not commit adultery” (Exodus 20:14). Having pure thoughts helps us keep this commandment (see D&C 42:23).

quote-dont-covet-10-commandments

“Thou shalt not covet” (Exodus 20:17). Coveting leads to, among other things, dissatisfaction and unhappiness.

“Thou shalt not covet” is the 10th commandment, but in some ways it is one of the most important, because coveting can lead to lying, stealing, and even murder. ~C.A. Davidson

Commandments Are for Our Happiness

“God’s commandments are not given to frustrate us or to become obstacles to our happiness. Just the opposite is true. He who created us and who loves us perfectly knows just how we need to live our lives in order to obtain the greatest happiness possible. …

quote-contentment“Our Heavenly Father loves us enough to say: Thou shalt not lie; thou shalt not steal; thou shalt not commit adultery; thou shalt love thy neighbor as thyself; and so on. We know the commandments. He understands that when we keep the commandments, our lives will be happier, more fulfilling, and less complicated.”

President Thomas S. Monson, “Keep the Commandments,” Ensign, Nov. 2015, 83.

THE HAIRCUT

Blessed are those that can give without remembering, and take without forgetting.

haircutOne day a florist went to a barber for a haircut. After the cut, he asked about his bill, and the barber replied, ‘I cannot accept money from you, I’m doing community service this week.’

The florist was pleased and left the shop.

When the barber went to open his shop the next morning, there was a ‘thank you’ card and a dozen roses waiting for him at his door.

Later, a cop comes in for a haircut, and when he tries to pay his bill, the barber again replied, ‘I cannot accept money from you, I’m doing community service this week.’ The cop was happy and left the shop.

The next morning when the barber went to open up, there was a ‘thank you’ card and a dozen donuts waiting for him at his door.

redistsocialismillustratedThen a Congressman came in for a haircut, and when he went to pay his bill, the barber again replied, ‘I cannot accept money from you. I’m doing community service this week.’ The Congressman was very happy and left the shop.

The next morning, when the barber went to open up, there were a dozen Congressmen lined up waiting for a free haircut.

And that, my friends, illustrates the fundamental difference between the citizens of our country and the politicians who run it.

As Ronald Reagan said:

BOTH POLITICIANS AND DIAPERS NEED TO BE CHANGED OFTEN AND FOR THE SAME REASON!
