Who can steady the Ark of the Covenant?
We can trust God completely. There is no man anywhere who can improve upon the Lord’s plan. This should give us great peace and assurance. ~C.D.
2 Samuel 6:6-7
The Ark containing the covenant Matt. 8:19-20 [p. 29b]or the Ark of the Covenant Num. 10:33 in the days of Moses, containing the sacred records, Heb. 9:4 was moved from place to place in a cart. And so sacred was that Ark, if a man stretched forth his hand to steady it, when the cart jostled, he was smitten, and died. 2 Sam. 6:6-7
When King David, together with all the chosen men of Israel, thirty thousand in number, arose to bring [p. 252b]up the ark of God from the house of Abinadab that was in Gibeah, they put it upon a new cart, and Uzzah and Ahio the sons of Abinadab drove the new cart. 2 Sam. 6:1-3 When they came to Nachon’s threshing floor, Uzzah put forth his hand to the ark of God, and took hold of it, for the oxen shook it. The anger of the Lord was kindled against Uzzah, and God smote him there for his error; and there he died by the ark of God. 2 Sam. 6:6-7
1 Chronicles 13:9-10
- 9 ¶ And when they came unto the threshingfloor of Chidon, Uzza put forth his hand to hold the ark; for the oxen stumbled.
- 10 And the anger of the LORD was kindled against Uzza, and he smote him, because he put his hand to the ark: and there he died before God.
False Teachers or Spirit-led Teachers?
These days are the ones prophesied by Saint John, in which there are arising many antichrists—meaning persons presenting themselves as being a type of savior, but in reality opposing Christ, even misleading others to believe their falsehood. They set themselves up as a light unto the world, but really their motives are to get power, and they have no concern for the best interest of Zion or America, the covenant land.
Jesus told us we can discern false teachers and “ark steadiers” among us, by their fruits.
The fruits of those who reject God and His commandments are: moral decline, murder of the innocent, destruction of the family, and its attendant heart-rending effects on our children.
Sailor w-Jesus by Warner Sallman
The fruits of those who honor God and obey his commandments include: liberty, right to life, peace, order, and a considerable degree of justice and mercy.
Leaders in ancient scripture who honored God and blessed the covenant people
Cyrus of Persia was not a believer, but he conquered Babylon and allowed the Jews to return to Jerusalem and rebuild their temple.
Moroni, a Christian leader in ancient America, strongly fortified his cities. In so doing, he kept the commandments of God in preparing for the safety of his people. (Alma 49:27)
Quotes by Christian Leaders
As it regards his kingdom and purposes, I would rather risk his judgment and plan than my own. I feel myself so incompetent, and I believe you are the same, and know so little about the future designs of God and his purposes pertaining to the human family, and what will most conduce to our individual welfare and to our welfare as a people, that I do not want to put my hand to steady the ark. 2 Sam. 6:6-7 ~John Taylor
Let the kingdom alone, the Lord steadies the ark; D&C 85:8 and if it does jostle, and appear to need steadying, if the way is a little sideling sometimes, and to all appearance threatens its overthrow, be careful how you stretch forth your hands to steady it; let us not be too officious in meddling with that which does not concern us; let it alone, it is the Lord’s work.
I know enough to let the kingdom alone, and do my duty. It carries me, I do not carry the kingdom.
I sail in the old ship Zion, and it bears me safely above the raging elements. I have my sphere of action and duties to perform on board of that ship; to faithfully perform them should be my constant and unceasing endeavor.
You may examine from the beginning to this day, and continue to watch in the future, and where you find a man who wishes to steady the ark of God, 2 Sam. 6:6-7 1 Chr. 13:9-10 D&C 85:8 without being called to do so, you will find a dark spot in him. The man full of light and intelligence discerns that God steadies his own ark, dictates his own affairs, guides his people, controls his kingdom, governs nations, and holds the hearts of all living in his hands, and turns them hither and thither at his pleasure, not infringing upon their agency. There is not the least danger of disagreeing with persons enjoying the Holy Spirit.
~ Brigham Young
[A] man put forth his hand to steady the ark of God. It reeled to and fro. It was in a cart, [p. 139b]drawn by oxen. Probably it might have pleased Uzzah better if it had been put into a stately carriage, drawn by two or four fine steeds; but he ventured to put forth his hand to steady the ark of God, and was smitten of God at once 2 Sam. 6:6-7 for his presumptuous interference with the affairs of the great I AM. Ex. 3:14 ~ Orson Hyde
