NEVER FORGET:  the 5 Lessons We Should Have Learned From 9/11

ByBen Shapiro

On the sixteenth anniversary of 9/11, it’s time for a reminder of the lessons we should have learned — and that we have now unlearned. On that horrific day, on a bright sunshine-riddled morning, Islamist terrorists flew two passenger airplanes into the World Trade Center towers, collapsing them both and murdering nearly 3,000 Americans; flew another passenger airliner into the Pentagon; and were only prevented from flying a fourth into the White House or Capitol by the bravery of passengers who forced the crash of the flight in a field in Pennsylvania.

America responded with the full brunt of her wrath. For a brief moment in time, we were united against a common enemy: we reduced Afghanistan’s ruling regime to powerlessness, then turned and reduced the Saddam Hussein regime to smoldering ash. We increased bureaucracy and security at our airports. We poured money into building our military. Some of this was necessary; some of it wasn’t. But we knew one thing: we wouldn’t allow ourselves to be hit again. We wouldn’t be caught asleep at the wheel again.

We had learned our lessons.

But now those lessons have been largely forgotten. Here were some of the lessons we should have learned.

  1. Global Retreat Is Not A Strategy. The Clinton Administration foreign policy of quasi-isolationism, combined with occasional human rights-driven interventionism, was a formula for failure. After Osama Bin Laden’s Al Qaeda bombed the American embassies in Kenya and Tanzania, the United States did virtually nothing; again, the U.S. did virtually nothing after Bin Laden bombed the USS Cole. Bin Laden saw the United States as a paper tiger. That prompted him to strike, thinking that he would get away with it.

The Bush Administration’s aggressive response took Al Qaeda by surprise. According to James Mitchell, the man who questioned Al Qaeda mastermind Khaled Sheikh Mohammed, KSM stated, “How was I supposed to know that cowboy George Bush would announce he wanted us ‘dead or alive’ and then invade Afghanistan to hunt us down?” Mitchell writes, “KSM explained that if the United States had treated 9/11 like a law enforcement matter, he would have had time to launch a second wave of attacks.”

But the blowback from the Iraq War led the Obama Administration to imitate the foreign policy of the Clinton Administration, and in many ways, has led the Trump Administration to do the same.

  1. Money Doesn’t Buy Off Islamists. Neither Does Friendliness. For a decade, the Clinton Administration reached out to the Palestinian government with cash, pressure on our ally Israel, and symbolic moves to legitimize the regime. The response: on 9/11, the Palestinians danced in the streets and celebrated as Americans leapt to their deaths from burning buildings.

One of the great myths purveyed by Bin Laden was that the United States had been overtly hostile toward Muslims around the world. That’s nonsense. We used the power of America’s military to stop the invasion of Kuwait; we sided with the mujahedeen in Afghanistan against the Soviets; we activated NATO to prevent a genocide against Croatian Muslims in former Yugoslavia. Friendliness toward the Muslim world does not matter to Islamists, who seek only the domination of a religious caliphate.

Yet the Obama Administration sought friendship with the Iranian government, essentially handing them a nuclear program and control of a vast swath of the Middle East.

  1. Immigration Matters. President Trump is right to look to immigration vetting as a serious problem in handling of the terror threat. All 19 of the hijackers arrived on visas, either student, tourist, or business. Several of them overstayed their visas. While Trump worries mostly about immigration via the southern border, an estimated 40% of illegal immigration occurs through legal entry and then visa overstay. Our porous southern border is a problem. A bigger problem is the government’s utter failure to vet people entering the country generally and then their complete unwillingness to follow up on those who overstay their visas. While the Left complains about Trump’s refugee stay, the fact is that the government ought to be deeply concerned about those who enter the country from Islamist-rich regions. Europe is finding that out the hard way through increased crime and terrorism.
  2. Major Terrorist Attacks Require Sponsor States. This was a widely-accepted truism in the aftermath of the 9/11 attacks — that major attacks require planning, coordination and resources that demand a home base. That’s why the Bush Administration took out the Taliban, and looked (wrongly) to Iraq as a sponsor state of terrorism (they should have looked more closely at Iran). That logic led the Bush Administration to think that replacement of regimes with more democratic institutions would naturally effectuate less terror; the Obama Administration, in its bizarre argument in favor of the so-called Arab Spring, felt the same way. That was a problem with the implementation of the theory, not the theory itself. Major terrorist operations do require state sponsors — that’s why ISIS’ territorial integrity matters to its sponsorship of major terror operations overseas.
  3. America Has Real Enemies. It’s tempting for the United States to look inward for threats to its citizens — we’re the freest, most prosperous country in human history. As Obama noted, Al Qaeda was never an existential threat to us, nor is ISIS. But when it comes to threats to American citizens, the first duty of the government is to prevent those threats and stop those who would perpetrate them. We should be unified in that effort, not divided for political reasons.

Many of the lessons we learned on 9/11 have faded with time. We seem to be back where we started — in the miasma of Clintonian isolationism, although tempered by a stronger anti-terror mechanism abroad. That’s why it’s imperative that we once again remember what happened on 9/11 — and what we must do to stop the next 9/11.

Glazov: 3 Lessons on the 25th Anniversary of the Soviet Union’s Fall

Jamie Glazov

keyIf all these pieces fall into place, President Trump will succeed, as Reagan did, in setting the stage for yet another glorious chapter – a chapter that sees an Evil Empire stagger to its knees and then, when finally shamed and crippled, cast where it belongs: on the ash heap of history.

history-russia-ussrDecember 25 marked the 25th anniversary of the collapse of the Soviet Union. On this occasion, it is urgent for us to reflect on 3 key lessons that the fall of the Evil Empire provided. They are lessons that the new incoming Trump administration must put into action immediately vis-à-vis our enemy in the terror war.

Lesson #1: Go on the Offense Against Islamic Supremacism

While we know that the Soviet Union collapsed, on many realms, from within, the record is clear that President Reagan also fueled the collapse. By moving against détente and beyond containment, Reagan’s aggressive anti-communism saw the U.S. take on a strategic offensive against the Soviet Union which led to victory. As Paul Kengor has documented in his book, The Crusader, Reagan fought not to just contain, but to win. His administration’s massive defense build-up, support of anti-communist rebels around the world, support of dissident movements behind the Iron Curtain, promotion of SDI, and many other aggressive policies put a heavy pressure on the Soviet Union that ultimately broke its already fragile legs.

obama-cover-up1Thus, we see how in our present-day conflict with Islamic Supremacism, we need to go on the offensive. In order to do that, we must first take two crucial steps. The first step is to name the enemy; the second is to formulate an actual doctrine against him. As Sebastian Gorka urges in Defeating Jihad, the U.S. government needs to lay down a vision, an actual “threat doctrine analysis” in a thorough document, just like George Kennan’s Long Telegram and NSC-68 did in laying out the strategic foundation to fighting communism in the Cold War. The new incoming Trump administration, therefore, must articulate a threat doctrine analysis and then shape it into a Reagan-like doctrine of offense.

Lesson #2: Deceive the Totalitarian Enemy into Being Pluralistic

reagans-warIn Reagan’s War,( See Book Review)  Peter Schweizer revealed how the Reagan administration cleverly promoted the process of change within the Soviet Union towards a more pluralistic political and economic system. This was a brilliant approach, seeing that Gorbachev’s policies of Glasnost and Perestroika clearly triggered communism’s collapse.

Henry Kissinger has shrewdly delineated how Gorbachev’s effort to reform, as well as to salvage, Soviet communism was the very ingredient that fueled its disintegration. Indeed, once Moscow ended its total and intrusive control of its satellites, and once it allowed free discussion, it signed its own death warrant. Gorbachev wanted to de-Stalinize, yet he could not do so without destroying the regime itself. Kissinger writes:

Gorbachev’s gamble on liberalization was bound to fail. To the degree that the Communist Party had lost its monolithic character, it became demoralized. Liberalization proved incompatible with communist rule — the communists could not turn themselves into democrats without ceasing to be communists, an equation Gorbachev never understood.

To be sure, the whole idea of de-Stalinization was based on the assumption that the Soviet regime could survive without its despotic component; that it could endure a reconciliation with its past. But a legitimate examination of the causes of Stalinism could not occur without an uncensored evaluation of Leninism, which the Soviet system could not allow without risking the de-legitimization of its entire foundation.

This is a crucial lesson for our leadership in the terror war. But first, let us be clear: we must not buy into Natan Sharansky’s naive assumption that all people want freedom. They do not, especially Sharia-believers. The dark consequences of the so-called “Arab Spring” taught us this painful lesson well, as we witnessed the process of “democratization” in the Middle East lead to a totalitarian Islamist Winter.

But this does not mean that we do not heed one of Sharansky’s profound implications: that we must follow Reagan’s example of undermining the enemy by encouraging certain tyrannical entities to behave like pluralists. There is huge potential in nudging tyrants to open up free discussion and to hold their terror back – for freedom and spoken truth have a corrosive effect on tyranny’s chains. Indeed, just imagine, for instance, if leaders within the Islamic world started showing off how pluralistic they were and began allowing a free and honest discussion on the ingredients of their prophet Mohammed’s life.

Lesson #3: Verbally Take the Moral High Ground

reagan-isisIn his June 1982 speech before the British House of Commons, President Reagan announced that he had a long-term plan “which will leave Marxism-Leninism on the ash heap of history.” The next year, on March 8, 1983, he famously called the Soviet Union the “Evil Empire.” Four years later, in June 1987, he challenged Gorbachev to “tear down” the Berlin Wall. All of these pronouncements were crucial in the U.S. strategy of defeating Soviet communism. They upped the stakes and achieved moral clarity. They cut the dividing line between the good guys and the bad guys, and they called out the Soviets for the evil oppressors that they were. In so doing, these pronouncements also made it clear that the future was not on the Soviets’ side.

William F. Buckley, Jr. profoundly noted that by calling the Soviet Union the “Evil Empire,” Reagan had formulated the galvanizing summation to Alexander Solzhenitsyn’s Gulag Archipelago and, consequently, “the countdown for Communism began then.” And indeed, two years after challenging Gorbachev to tear down the Berlin Wall, the wall came down.

The Moral difference between American Liberty and Islamic Supremacism must be Spoken

reagan-quote-appeasementThe lesson here for the new incoming president is that the moral difference between our side and Islamic Supremacism must be spoken. The divide must be drawn in no uncertain terms.

President Trump can be most effective in this regard by bringing attention to all the victims of Sharia and Jihad, and emphasizing that Muslims are also the victims of Islamic Supremacism. One of the most urgent causes to promote is the women’s rights issue. American leadership must make it transparently clear, once and for all, which civilization stands for women and what entity denigrates and mutilates them.

Trump must deliver a special speech that unveils the victims of honor killings, acid attacks and female genital mutilation, and of forced veiling, forced marriage and forced segregation under Islam – and issue a concrete challenge as Reagan did to Gorbachev. He must point to the tyrannical wall of Islamic gender apartheid and pronounce unequivocally: Imams, muftis and clerics of the world, tear down this wall.

Trump must do this while simultaneously shattering the Left’s and Muslim Brotherhood’s favorite propaganda lie: that standing up to Islamic Supremacism and telling the truth about its inspirations is somehow instigating hatred of all Muslim people. This is a pernicious ploy based on a faulty conflation of Islam with Muslims. It must be made categorically clear that we are dealing with an ideology; we are not hating all the people who fall under its grasp.

There are millions of people who go under the label “Muslim” but who may not agree with, or follow, all Islamic mandates, or who may want to reform them, or who may not even know anything about them – or who may have simply been born into the religion and were never even given a choice as to who they wanted to be. We have no problem with these people. And as a matter of fact, our standing up to Islamic Supremacism is a defense of these Muslims because they are, like millions of Muslims around the world, also victims of Islamic Supremacism.

All in all, the point must be driven home that we are on the side of Muslim people, and especially of those, like Zuhdi Jasser, who seek to reform Islam and bring it into the modern world.

And so, in reflecting on these three lessons of the fall of the Soviet Union 25 years ago, we begin to gauge how, if applied with precision, they can help our new incoming president launch a winning strategy against our enemy in the terror war. Trump shows every sign that he can and will achieve this. He has demonstrated himself to be a good man who loves his country and who wants the best for it. He has shown a willingness to name the enemy and to take the war to him. He has also surrounded himself with all the noble and high-caliber people who are determined to set America on the winning course.

If all these pieces fall into place, President Trump will succeed, as Reagan did, in setting the stage for yet another glorious chapter – a chapter that sees an Evil Empire stagger to its knees and then, when finally shamed and crippled, cast where it belongs: on the ash heap of history.

Socialism Fail: 3 Lessons on 25th Anniversary of Soviet Union’s Fall

Gospel Teachings: History Lesson warning, Repent or Regret

Gospel Teachings:

History Lesson warning— Repent or Regret

keyRepentance is a message of love.

“Watchman, Warn the wicked”

Ezra Taft Benson

The prophet Ezekiel declared:

watchmantower“Son of man, I have made thee a watchman unto the house of Israel: therefore hear the word at my mouth, and give them warning from me.

“When I say unto the wicked, Thou shalt surely die; and thou givest him not warning, nor speakest to warn the wicked from his wicked way, to save his life; the same wicked man shall die in his iniquity; but his blood will I require at thine hand.

“Yet if thou warn the wicked, and he turn not from his wickedness, nor from his wicked way, he shall die in his iniquity; but thou hast delivered thy soul.” (Ezek. 3:17–19.)

Our Day . . .

The inspired Book of Mormon prophets saw our day and warned us of the strategy of the adversary. Hear their words:

“For behold, at that day shall he [the devil] rage in the hearts of the children of men, and stir them up to anger against that which is good.

“And others will be pacify, and lull them away into carnal security. …

“… wo be unto him that hearkeneth unto the precepts of men, and denieth the power of God. …” (2 Ne. 28:20–21, 26.)

Through a modern prophet, Joseph Smith, the Lord has given this further warning: “Wherefore the voice of the Lord is unto the ends of the earth, that all that will hear may hear:

“… and the day cometh that they who will not hear the voice of the Lord, neither the voice of his servants, neither give heed to the words of the prophets and apostles, shall be cut off from among the people;

“For they have strayed from mine ordinances, and have broken mine everlasting covenant;

“They seek not the Lord to establish his righteousness, but every man walketh in his own way, and after the image of his own God, whose image is in the likeness of the world. …

“What I the Lord have spoken, I have spoken, and I excuse not myself; and though the heavens and the earth pass away, my word shall not pass away, but shall all be fulfilled, whether by mine own voice, or by the voice of my servants, it is the same.” (D&C 1:11, 14–16, 38.)

These warnings were given 140 years ago. The fulfillment is now. We are living witnesses, unless we are blinded by our own complacency and the craftiness of evil men.

watchman-on-towerAs watchmen on the tower of Zion, it is our obligation and right as leaders to speak out against current evils—evils that strike at the very foundation of all we hold dear as the true church of Christ and as members of Christian nations.

As one of these watchmen, with a love for humanity, I accept humbly this obligation and challenge and gratefully strive to do my duty without fear. In times as serious as these, we must not permit fear of criticism to keep us from doing our duty, even at the risk of our counsel being tabbed as political, as government becomes more and more entwined in our daily lives.

In the crisis through which we are now passing, we have been fully warned. This has brought forth some criticism. There are some of us who do not want to hear the message. It embarrasses us. The things which are threatening our lives, our welfare, our freedoms are the very things some of us have been condoning. Many do not want to be disturbed as they continue to enjoy their comfortable complacency.

Stand for Truth

bednar-truth-192x192The Church is founded on eternal truth. We do not compromise principle. We do not surrender our standards regardless of current trends or pressures. Our allegiance to truth as a church is unwavering. Speaking out against immoral or unjust actions has been the burden of prophets and disciples of God from time immemorial. It was for this very reason that many of them were persecuted. Nevertheless, it was their God-given task, as watchmen on the tower, to warn the people.

We live in an age of appeasement—the sacrificing of principle. Appeasement is not the answer. It is never the right answer.

One of these modern Church watchmen has given this sound warning:

“A milk-and-water allegiance kills; while a passionate devotion gives life and soul to any cause and its adherents. The troubles of the world may largely be laid at the doors of those who are neither hot nor cold; who always follow the line of least resistance; whose timid hearts flutter at taking sides for truth. As in the great Council in the heavens, so in the Church of Christ on earth, there can be no neutrality. We are, or we are not, on the side of the Lord. An unrelenting faith, contemptuous of all compromise, will lead the Church and every member of it, to triumph and the achievement of our high destiny.

“The final conquerors of the world will be the men and women, few or many matters not, who fearlessly and unflinchingly cling to truth, and who are able to say no, as well as yes, on whose lofty banner is inscribed: No compromise with error. …”

“Tolerance is not conformity to the world’s view and practices. We must not surrender our beliefs to get along with people, however beloved or influential they may be. Too high a price may be paid for social standing or even for harmony. …

The Gospel rests upon eternal truth; and truth can never be deserted safely.” (John A. Widtsoe, Conference Report, April 1941, pp. 117, 116.)

It has been well said that “our greatest national problem is erosion. Not erosion of the soil, but erosion of the national morality.”

The United States of America has been great because it has been free. It has been free because it has trusted in God and was founded upon the principles of freedom set forth in the word of God. This nation has a spiritual foundation. To me, this land has a prophetic history.

In the year 1831 Alexis de Tocqueville, the famous French historian, came to our country at the request of the French government to study our penal institutions. He also made a close study of our political and social institutions. In less than ten years, de Tocqueville had become world-famous, as the result of the four-volume work that he wrote, entitled Democracy in America. Here is his own stirring explanation of the greatness of America:

Alexis de Tocqueville

Alexis de Tocqueville

“I sought for the greatness and genius of America in her commodious harbors and her ample rivers, and it was not there; in her fertile fields and boundless prairies, and it was not there; in her rich mines and her vast world commerce, and it was not there. Not until I went to the churches of America and heard her pulpits aflame with righteousness did I understand the secret of her genius and power. America is great because she is good, and if America ever ceases to be good, America will cease to be great.” (Prophets, Principles and National Survival, compiled by Jerreld L. Newquist [Salt Lake City, Publishers Press, 1964], p. 60.)

How strong is our will to remain free—to be good? False thinking and false ideologies, dressed in the most pleasing forms, quietly—almost without our knowing it—seek to reduce our moral defenses and to captivate our minds. They entice with bright promises of security, cradle-to-grave guarantees of many kinds. They masquerade under various names, but all may be recognized by one thing—one thing they all have in common: to erode away character and man’s freedom to think and act for himself.

Effort will be made to lull us away into a false security. Proposals will be and are being offered and programs sponsored that have wide appeal. Attractive labels are usually attached to the most dangerous programs, often in the name of public welfare and personal security. Again, let us not be misled.

Freedom can be killed by neglect as well as by direct attack.

Too long have too many Americans, and people of the free world generally, stood by as silent accessories to the crimes of assault against freedom—assault against basic economic and spiritual principles and traditions that have made nations strong.

Let us strive for progress down the road of goodness and freedom. With the help and blessings of the Lord, the free people of the United States and the free world can and will face tomorrow without fear, without doubt, and with full confidence. We do not fear the phony population explosion, nor do we fear a shortage of food, if we can be free and good. The Lord has declared, “… the earth is full, and there is enough and to spare. …” (D&C 104:17.) We can accept this promise with confidence.

We need more Moral Character

President Calvin Coolidge pinpointed the problem some years ago with these words:

Only Staying above world standards is still moral decline

Only Staying above world standards is still moral decline

“We do not need more material development, we need more spiritual development. We do not need more intellectual power, we need more moral power. We do not need more knowledge, we need more character. We do not need more government, we need more culture. We do not need more law, we need more religion. We do not need more of the things that are seen, we need more of the things that are unseen. It is on that side of life that it is desirable to put the emphasis at the present time. If that side is strengthened, the other side will take care of itself. It is that side which is the foundation of all else. If the foundation be firm, the superstructure will stand.” (Prophets, Principles and National Survival, p. 35.)

As a free people, we are following very closely in many respects the pattern which led to the downfall of the great Roman Empire. A group of well-known historians has summarized those conditions leading to the downfall of Rome in these words:

roman-empire1“… Rome had known a pioneer beginning not unlike our own pioneer heritage, and then entered into two centuries of greatness, reaching its pinnacle in the second of those centuries, going into the decline and collapse in the third. Yet, the sins of decay were becoming apparent in the latter years of that second century.

“It is written that there were vast increases in the number of the idle rich, and the idle poor. The latter (the idle poor) were put on a permanent dole, a welfare system not unlike our own. As this system became permanent, the recipients of public largesse (welfare) increased in number. They organized into a political block with sizable power. They were not hesitant about making their demands known. Nor was the government hesitant about agreeing to their demands … and with ever-increasing frequency. Would-be emperors catered to them. The great, solid middle class—Rome’s strength then as ours is today—was taxed more and more to support a bureaucracy that kept growing larger, and even more powerful. Surtaxes were imposed upon incomes to meet emergencies. The government engaged in deficit spending. The denarius, a silver coin similar to our half dollar, began to lose its silvery hue. It took on a copper color as the government reduced the silver content.

“Even then, Gresham’s law was at work, because the real silver coin soon disappeared. It went into hiding.

“Military service was an obligation highly honored by the Romans. Indeed, a foreigner could win Roman citizenship simply by volunteering for service in the legions of Rome. But, with increasing affluence and opulence, the young men of Rome began avoiding this service, finding excuses to remain in the soft and sordid life of the city. They took to using cosmetics and wearing feminine-like hairdo’s and garments, until it became difficult, the historians tell us, to tell the sexes apart.

“Among the teachers and scholars was a group called the Cynics whose number let their hair and beards grow, and who wore slovenly clothes, and professed indifference to worldly goods as they heaped scorn on what they called ‘middle class values.’

“The morals declined. It became unsafe to walk in the countryside or the city streets. Rioting was commonplace and sometimes whole sections of towns and cities were burned.

“And, all the time, the twin diseases of confiscatory taxation and creeping inflation were waiting to deliver the death blow.

“Then finally, all these forces overcame the energy and ambition of the middle class.

“Rome fell.

“We are now approaching the end of our second century.” (Address by Governor Ronald Reagan of California at Eisenhower College, New York, 1969.)

roman-empire2-gibbons-bookIn 1787 Edward Gibbon completed his noble work The Decline and Fall of the Roman Empire. Here is the way he accounted for the fall:

  1. The undermining of the dignity and sanctity of the home, which is the basis of human society.
  2. Higher and higher taxes and the spending of public monies for free bread and circuses for the populace.
  3. The mad craze for pleasure, sports becoming every year more and more exciting and brutal.
  4. The building of gigantic armaments when the real enemy was within the decadence of the people.
  5. The decay of religion—faith fading into mere form, losing touch with life, and becoming impotent to warn and guide the people.

Is there a parallel for us in America today? Could the same reasons that destroyed Rome destroy America and possibly other countries of the free world?

For eight years in Washington I had this prayerful statement on my desk: “O God, give us men with a mandate higher than the ballot box.”

Lessons of History

The lessons of history, many of them very sobering, ought to be turned to during this hour of our great achievements, because during the hour of our success is our greatest danger. Even during the hour of our great prosperity, a nation may sow the seeds of its own destruction. History reveals that rarely is a great civilization conquered from without unless it has weakened or destroyed itself within.

The lessons of history stand as guideposts to help us safely chart the course for the future.

As American citizens, as citizens of the nations of the free world, we need to rouse ourselves to the problems which confront us as great Christian nations. We must recognize that these fundamental, basic principles—moral and spiritual—lay at the very foundation of our past achievements. To continue to enjoy present blessings, we must return to these basic and fundamental principles. Economics and morals are both part of one inseparable body of truth. They must be in harmony. We need to square our actions with these eternal verities.

The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints stands firm in support of the great spiritual and moral principles which have been the basic traditions of the free world. We oppose every evil effort to downgrade or challenge the eternal verities which have undergirded civilization from the beginning.

We will use every honorable means to strengthen the home and family; to encourage obedience to the first and great commandment to multiply and replenish the earth through noble parenthood; and to strengthen character through adherence to high spiritual and moral principles.

Moral Compass

moralcompass1In The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints chastity will never be out of date. We have one standard for men and women, and that standard is moral purity. We oppose and abhor the damnable practice of wholesale abortion and every other unholy and impure act which strikes at the very foundation of the home and family, our most basic institutions.

A continuation of these immoral practices will surely bring down the wrath and judgments of the Almighty.

In our concentration upon materialism and material acquisitions, are we forgetting the spiritual basis upon which our prosperity, security, and freedom rest? God help us to repent of our evil ways and humble ourselves before the offended power.

There is great safety in a nation on its knees.

What assurance it would give of the much-needed blessings of the Lord if the American people, and people everywhere, could all be found daily—night and morning—on their knees expressing gratitude for blessings already received, acknowledging our dependence upon God, and seeking his divine guidance.

The spectacle of a nation praying is more awe-inspiring, more powerful, than the explosion of an atomic bomb. The force of prayer is greater than any possible combination of man-controlled powers, because “prayer is man’s greatest means of tapping the resources of God.” The Founding Fathers accept this eternal verity. Do we? Will we?

familyprayerYes, it is in our own enlightened self-interest to engage in this simple practice, this powerful practice of prayer. Roger Babson said many years ago: “What this country needs more than anything else is old-fashioned family prayer.” Yes, our greatest need is a return to the old-fashioned, time-tested verities.

God help us, as free men, to recognize the source of our blessings, the threat to our freedom and our moral and spiritual standards, and the need for humble, yet courageous, action to preserve these priceless, time-tested blessings.

The whole thing is inexplicable.  There is so much that doesn’t make any sense anymore.  So much in our politics that’s happening every day doesn’t make sense to people anymore.  And no matter how artful you are at explaining it, it still doesn’t make sense.  It doesn’t make sense because it appears that we’ve lost patriots.  It appears our government is not filled with patriots anymore.  That’s what’s inexplicable.

“The message, I think, from many of the speakers will be that this deal funds and arms the Nazi Germany of today,” said Morton Klein, the president of the Zionist Organization of America, a pro-Israel group that is co-sponsoring the rally along with the Tea Party Patriots and other organizations.[See Nazi Germany-Islam connection below]

“We’re going to be urging those [supporters of the deal] to rethink their position and try to make them recognize the future blood of innocent civilians who will be massacred because of this deal will be on their hands,” Klein added. “Many of us will say it that bluntly.”

And let me be clear, if you vote to send billions of dollars to jihadists who have pledged to murder Americans, then you bear direct responsibility for the murders carried out with the dollars you have given them.  You cannot wash your hands of that blood.

Trump-Cruz-vs-Iran-RallyRUSH:  Ted Cruz speaking to the Democrats in Washington telling them they will have blood on their hands by lifting sanctions, approving this deal and allowing the terrorist sponsoring state, biggest one in the world, another $150 billion dollars to play with, that currently is frozen.  He continued with this remark.

CRUZ:  Let me say to Republican leadership.  Well, hold on.  I come not to bury Caesar, but to praise him.  There are two men in Washington, DC who can defeat this deal, majority leader Mitch McConnell and Speaker John Boehner.  All that has to happen is for Mitch McConnell and John Boehner to say the congressional review period has not started.  Under federal law, it is illegal for Obama to lift sanctions.  If Republican obama-hates-israelleadership decides that a show vote is more important than stopping this deal, then the single most important issue in 2016 will be stopping Iran from acquiring a nuclear weapon.

RUSH:  So he starts out telling the Democrats they’re gonna have blood on their hands and goes to the Republicans and reminds them they can still stop it if they really want to.  Like we said yesterday, the Republicans’ new strategy — actually it’s not a new strategy.  It’s what they’ve been doing all along.  They pretend fight and then surrender.  Actually, they surrender first, before we know it, and then they pretend fight.

So that’s the strategy, and it’s Cruz just trying to alert people to the fact the deal can still be stopped.  A long shot, but it can.  Here’s Trump.  He was there as well.

TRUMP:  If I win the presidency, I guarantee you that those four prisoners are back in our country before I ever take office.  I guarantee you that.  They will be back before I ever take office, because they know that’s what has to happen, okay?  They know it.  And if they don’t know it, I’m telling them right now.

RUSH:  Donald Trump on the campaign trail.  So was Cruz.  This was at the Tea Party Patriots “Stop the Iran Deal” rally up on Capitol Hill.

2. How Congress Can Stop the Iran Deal

heritage-cartoon-iran-dealThe Corker law can legitimately repeal the anti-nuclear sanctions against Iran, because the sanctions are statutory. So you don’t need a treaty to repeal them.  And if you nuke the sanctions, if you are able to repeal the sanctions with the Corker bill, then the Iranians pull out.  They’re not gonna want any part of it. If the sanctions don’t get lifted, there’s no reason for them to sign the deal.  Now, Andy’s column explaining this…

You know, Andy is a former prosecutor and covers every imaginable detail and objection with an answer.  I don’t have the time here to delve into his entire piece, but you can see it at National Review Online, and I’m sure Koko will link to it at RushLimbaugh.com.  Essentially what it boils down to now is, since the treaty aspect of this is vamanos, the only way to block Obama here now is for Congress to show that Obama has not complied with the condition he had to satisfy in order to lift the sanctions.

That condition was to disclose the entire deal to Congress by July 19th he did not do that.  That requirement was in the Corker bill.  The entirety of the deal had to be disclosed to Congress by July 19th, and it wasn’t.  I mean, it wasn’t even close.  And even after everybody was told we had a deal, there was still a couple of side deals out there that we learned about that then the Regime said, “Well, the side deals had nothing to do with that!

“I mean, those things are negotiated and we nothing to do with that.”  So the point is that the statutes — or the sanctions, rather — are statutory, meaning they are a matter of law.  You do not need to delve into any aspect of treaties either ratifying them or not, in order to deal with the sanctions.  If the Republicans in the Senate could force the sanctions to be maintained — in other words, not lifted — then there’s no way the Iranians agree to this, because the Iranians want the sanctions lifted in addition to everything else.

And of course in the Obama deal they get the sanctions lifted.  But Obama has not complied with a condition he had to satisfy. Now, you might say, “It doesn’t make any sense. It’s not a big deal, Rush. Okay, so he didn’t ’til everybody about July 19th.”  Hey, folks, it doesn’t matter. That is not the point.  The point is there’s a way to stop it.  The Republicans have in the palm of their hand a way to stop this.

The question is as it has always been:  Do they really want to?  And this gets back to everything we’ve been discussing today, yesterday, the day before.  It doesn’t appear they want to do a thing to stop Obama.  Before they had the Senate, they said, “Well, all we have is the House. We can’t stop anything. We need the Senate.” So we gave them the Senate.  “Well, we can’t stop Obama! We really need the White House.”

So whatever they’ve asked for, they have been given by virtue of votes.  And it is obvious that they have no desire to stop Obama.  The only point of this piece here that McCarthy wrote is to point out there is a way; they have it in the palm of their hand.  It’s a matter of whether or not they will use it.  Now, if they go ahead with this farce of voting for a resolution of disapproval, that’s the part of the Corker bill that is the joke.

3. Ironic History Lesson: Nazi Germany and Islam

adolf_hitlermeinkampfIrony: To assuage guilt for Nazism, Angela Merkel of Germany welcomes terrorist Muslim “refugees; Hitler and Islam were allies in World War 2; Persia changed name to Iran, (meaning Aryan)

In 1935 the Iranian government requested those countries which it had diplomatic relations with, to call PersiaIran,” which is the name of the country in Persian. The suggestion for the change is said to have come from the Iranian ambassador to Germany, who came under the influence of the Nazis.

Adolf Hitler financed Muslim Brotherhood and Muslim troops fought for Hitler as Waffen SS. As you can see, Muslim …

Mein Kampf, written by Adolf Hitler, is a best-seller in the Muslim World …

Rush Limbaugh reporting:

These are significant numbers, 800,000, and these are Muslims.  The vast majority of these are Muslims said to be Syrian refugees.  They’re not just from Syria, but most of them are military age men.  And they are not satisfied, as we talked about yesterday, staying in Greece or Italy.  They want Germany and Sweden.  Germany and Sweden are the two wealthiest countries in the European Union, and Germany is welcoming them, Angela Merkel is welcoming them.

I was dumbfounded. I was paralyzed.  I did not understand this at all.  Even her saying that she hoped it would change her country.  And you know what I found out?  Germany is losing its labor force faster than any industrial nation in the world.  Germany’s birthrate is so far below replacement levels, they have a crisis.  The only way they can maintain their current economy is this kind of human influx because they simply are not having enough births in Germany to keep the population where it is.  The population is shrinking and will continue to shrink, which means the labor force will shrink.

hitlermuftiI mean, 800,000 this year and 500,000 every year for who knows how long.  And she’s right, it’s gonna change the country.  I don’t know if she’s aware It is said that even modern day Germany still feels a lot of guilt over Hitler, the Nazis.  And they still feel, some of them, that they have say long way to go to prove they are not that anymore.

The thing about that is, if that’s true, if that’s part of the policy, if it’s part of the thinking, that they have to go overboard in showing people they’re no longer anyway, anywhere near what the Nazis were, well, they’re going too far.  The people that they are permitting in — let’s just say that the militant Islamists and the Nazis were allies in World War II, and the majority of these hundreds of thousands of people entering Germany are Islam.  I don’t know how many of them are extremist Islamists and so forth, but there have to be some.  So it’s kind of ironic in that sense.

Nazis, Islam vs. Christianity

The ignored historical Nazi-Islamic supremacist alliance

Truth Zone

Benjamin Weingarten

MuslimWarriorThe Nazis presented Turkey as stronger for having massacred its Armenians and expelling its Greeks. “Who,” Hitler asked in August 1939, “speaks today of the extermination of the Armenians?”

Apparently Hitler believed in the congruence between the values and principles espoused by Islam and his vision of Nietzsche’s “Übermensch”:

‘It’s been our misfortune to have the wrong religion,” Hitler complained to his pet architect Albert Speer. “Why did it have to be Christianity, with its meekness and flabbiness?” Islam was a Männerreligion—a “religion of men”—and hygienic too. The “soldiers of Islam” received a warrior’s heaven, “a real earthly paradise” with “houris” and “wine flowing.” This, Hitler argued, was much more suited to the “Germanic temperament” than the “Jewish filth and priestly twaddle” of Christianity.
