Critical Thinking Topics: Judgment and Decision Making

Critical Thinking Topics:

Judgment and Decision Making

Sometimes people feel that it is wrong to judge others in any way. While it is true that you should not condemn others or judge them unrighteously, you will need to make judgments of ideas, situations, and people throughout your life.

The Lord has given many commandments that you cannot keep without making judgments. For example, He has said: “Beware of false prophets. . . . Ye shall know them by their fruits” (Matthew 7:15-16) and “Go ye out from among the wicked” (D&C 38:42). You need to make judgments of people in many of your important decisions, such as choosing friends, voting for government leaders, and choosing an eternal companion.

Judgment is an important use of your agency [free will] and requires great care, especially when you make judgments about other people. All your judgments must be guided by righteous standards.

Remember that only God, who knows each individual’s heart, can make final judgments of individuals. (Revelation 20:12; 3 Nephi 27:14; D&C 137:9)

How to Make Righteous Judgments

Your righteous judgments about others can provide needed guidance for them and, in some cases, protection for you and your family. Approach any such judgment with care and compassion.

As much as you can, judge people’s situations rather than judging the people themselves. Whenever possible, refrain from making judgments until you have an adequate knowledge of the facts. Always be sensitive to the Holy Spirit, who can guide your decisions. True to the Faith, 90-91

How Do We “Judge Righteous Judgment”?

By Tyler J. Griffin

Associate Professor of Ancient Scripture, Brigham Young University

Jesus is not telling us never to judge. He is commanding us to make sure the judgments we make are righteous.

Have you ever been in a situation where somebody tried to correct another person by saying, “Judge not, that ye be not judged”? (Matthew 7:1). Few of Jesus’s teachings are more widely known than this one. Unfortunately, this phrase is not always correctly understood or applied. Our ability to benefit from this command will increase as we examine how Jesus Christ used it in His teachings and how His prophets have reiterated it through time.

In the Joseph Smith Translation of Matthew 7, we read, “Judge not unrighteously, that ye be not judged; but judge righteous judgment” (Joseph Smith Translation, Matthew 7:2 [in Matthew 7:1, footnote a]).

According to Joseph Smith’s addition to this passage in Matthew, Jesus is not telling us never to judge. He is commanding us to make sure the judgments we make are righteous.

Our Judgments of People

Dale G. Renlund of the Quorum of the Twelve Apostles taught, “God cares a lot more about who we are and who we are becoming than about who we once were.”5

Our own sins and lack of perfect understanding disqualify us from being able to pass final judgments on anyone, including ourselves. We must, however, make constant intermediate judgments. We are to righteously judge actions, not condemn people.

Judeo-Christian Culture: Christmas is about Christ

Judeo-Christian Culture:

Christmas is about Christ

C.A. Davidson

CHRISTMAS IS NOT multi-cultural. Christmas is unique to Biblical Culture, for without Christ, there would be no Christmas. It is called Western Civilization because it is civilized. Yes, despite the dogmas of moral relativism, Judeo-Christian culture is a superior culture. Western Culture has more respect for women and children, more religious and other liberty, more prosperity, more peace than any other culture. And it’s all because of the teachings of Christ.

Unlike other cultures, and contrary to what the media may tell you, we do not kill people we disagree with; we don’t treat certain groups as second-class citizens. We do require citizenship to enjoy Constitutional rights, but any country has to have laws and borders, or it is not a country.

Europe, the origin of Western Culture, is disintegrating because those peoples have failed to protect the cornerstone of civilization. When a nation stops obeying the Ten Commandments, it descends into savagery.

In the 1930s, the first school of political correctness convened in Frankfurt Germany. There the masterminds decided that the only way to achieve their agenda was to destroy Western Culture, for as long as Christians believed in God and moral absolutes, they stood in the way of the Marxist revolution. The first priority was to destroy the family. So Cultural Marxism was sown, and we are reaping its bitter fruits of moral relativism, multiculturalism, atheism, sexual anarchy, lawlessness, religious persecution, drug addiction, tyranny … the depressing list goes on and on.

And we have watched Christmas become a junk fest. In secular society, Christ is missing from Christmas. The best gift we can give our children this year, and all year long, is the gospel of Jesus Christ. There is only one plan of happiness that works: Faith, repentance, and obedience to God’s commandments. If we do not pass on these precious truths, our children will fall prey to all the deceptive counterfeits that lead to misery.

This is a serious message for this joyful season, but if we preserve and protect the true meaning of Christmas, we will have peace now, and there will be no post-holiday letdown. Instead, we will enjoy the Christmas Spirit all year long.

Judeo-Christian Values: Children are a Blessing, Children are our Future, Key to Success of America—Here’s Why

Judeo-Christian Values:

Children are a Blessing, Children are our Future, Key to Success of America—Here’s Why

Why Children are Essential

The problem of course is that Germany lacks the ability, and the will, to convert these uneducated masses who don’t believe in the Christian ideals that support modern Western civilization into good Germans. We need to let people know that there is no greater blessing than a child nor any profession which is superior to being a mother. ~Tom Trinko

By Tom Trinko

America is in trouble because we have too few children.  An aging population negatively impacts the economy, older people buy less stuff and tend to be retired, and government spending, since Social Security is basically a Ponzi scheme more and more older Americans need to be paid for by fewer young Americans.

To maintain a stable population the fertility rate, the number of children an average woman has, needs to be about 2.1. In 1960 the American fertility rate was about 3.6 and in 2015 it was about 1.8.

Islamification of Europe because of Too Few Children

This is a big deal; a similar problem is what is driving the Islamification of Europe.  Contrary to some conservatives, Frau Merkel didn’t invite millions of poorly educated sharia law-loving Muslims into Germany just because she likes Islam.  She did so because you can’t sustain a welfare state when your population is shrinking.  The fertility rate in Germany has always been lower than the U.S., about 1.5 in 2015, so Germany is facing a serious problem due to a lack of Germans.

The problem of course is that Germany lacks the ability, and the will, to convert these uneducated masses who don’t believe in the Christian ideals that support modern Western civilization into good Germans.

Given that shrinking populations are bad — except for the people-hating ecofreaks who are more concerned about animals than humans — how do we fix the problem without importing millions of people who don’t share American ideals like individual liberty, personal responsibility, and tolerance?

Secular American Society rejects Children, Judeo-Christian Values

The best solution is for Americans to start having more babies.  Unfortunately, the leftist war on civilized culture has corrupted American culture to the point that people view babies as a burden, or slightly better as a fashion accessory, not as a blessing.

A few of the reasons that the average American has fewer children:

  1. Children are portrayed in culture as burdens
  2. People are told by the culture to be selfish
  3. The culture says that sex isn’t about procreation at all it’s all about personal pleasure
  4. The purpose of marriage is to make the spouses happier not to replenish the human race
  5. Government programs have reduced the need for children to take care of us in our old age
  6. The vast wealth of the U.S. means that children are rarely needed to work in the family business
  7. Children exist for the good of the parents.
  8. A successful woman is like a man

Most modern entertainment stresses what a pain children are. They keep you up at night, they cost a fortune, they make trouble, etc.  Basically, a totally untrue portrayal of what life with children is like. It’s rare that anything in the culture, ther than content generated by explicitly religious sources, shows what a blessing children are.  The reality is that when a child is born into a family that family is suddenly filled with love.  There is nothing as rewarding as raising a child but for young people coming from small families all they see in the culture are the problems; no wonder they’re not keen on settling down and having their own children.

The culture tells us we need that new car or that fancy vacation. But since children do cost money they are viewed by the culture as impediments to parents meeting their “needs.”  The reality is that couples who intentionally avoid having children — not people who either never find the “right one” or who can’t have children — are selfish takers who spend their money on themselves instead of investing in America’s future.  Couples who raise their children invest a huge amount of money producing the future Americans who will pay the Social Security for and take care of those couples who just said no to children. But if marriage is all about the couple being happy, which is the message modern culture sends, then it’s fine to not waste money on kids.

Traditional Judeo-Christian Values

Historically, sex has had two components; a way to show love and a way to produce children. By declaring that producing children isn’t important, much of the incentive for men to settle down and support the next generation of children goes away.  If men can get all the sex they want without any commitment many men will go for it.

While the idea behind programs like Medicare and Social Security are good, they effectively transfer the responsibility for the elderly from the family to society as a whole. Hence a family with no children who spent all their money on themselves will be supported in their old age by the taxes of the children who were paid for by others.  In our world, the huge advantage of having kids to look after us in our old age is significantly mitigated by government policy.

Similarly, since unskilled kids are rarely useful in the family business another historical incentive that would offset the cost of children has been removed.

A father reads to his three young children from the Holy Bible.

To the extent that the culture does view having children as something less than an unmitigated burden it does so by saying what the children do for the parents.  How often does the culture swoon over having two kids, a boy for dad and a girl for mom?  But in doing so the culture tells us we have no responsibility for the future and that if our children don’t make our lives better we’ve been cheated.  Is it any wonder that violence against children is on the rise? Clearly, if children are fashion accessories designed to enhance the lives of their parents, many will eschew such a risky and significant expense and just buy a fancy car instead.

While many worry about losing America due to the massive influx of immigrants, legal and illegal, who don’t share our American values the reality is that unless Americans make more Americans the dissolution of our constitutional republic is inevitable.

Raising Children is a Blessing, Not a Burden

We need to attack the prevalent culture and call it out for its lies.  We need to let people know that there is no greater blessing than a child nor any profession which is superior to being a mother.  We don’t need to discriminate against women in the workplace we simply need to tell women that their natural desire to have and raise kids, ticking biological clock anyone, is a sign of greatness not a badge of shame.

We also need to modify how we deal with the elderly. ObamaCare, for example, taxed all the children of the families who invested in children to reduce the medical costs of couples who didn’t invest in children.  Social Security, as currently structured, is a huge tax on the children of others for those couples who didn’t have children.  Now this doesn’t mean that we have to end a government safety net but perhaps we need to make the child deduction on taxes much higher. Similarly we can convert Social Security into a defined contribution program so that the childless aren’t stealing from those who have invested in children.

The bottom line is no matter what sort of legal immigration policy we adopt, what wall we build, or how many people we deport unless the U.S. starts making more Americans our country is headed for a world of hurt.

Moral Character Education 1—Self Discipline Key to Happy Life

The Rules for a Long and Happy Life

By Robert A. Hall

Robert A. Hall served as a Marine in Vietnam, for five terms in the Massachusetts Senate, and for 31 years as an association executive.  He holds a B.A. in government and an M.Ed. in history and has 12 books in print on Amazon.  He retired in 2013 due to pulmonary fibrosis for a lung transplant.  He now works part-time at the Madison V.A. hospital, interviewing veterans and writing up their life stories for their records and their families.

The most important ingredient of a long, happy, and successful life is self-discipline.

You also need to develop resilience and tenacity.  Without these three things, your life will likely be poor, short, and unhappy.  I received them in Marine Corps Boot Camp, Parris Island, in 1964.  If you lack the fortitude or foresight to serve in the military, you need to get them someplace else.

Discipline yourself to maintain a normal weight.  Obesity is the second largest cause of premature death.

Discipline yourself to get regular exercise.  You’ll feel better and live longer.

The most valuable thing you can own is a good reputation.

Take responsibility for your actions.

Stop whining, complaining, and criticizing.  No one will want to be around you.

Stop blaming others.  The person who is responsible for over 90% of your problems is the one you see in the mirror every morning.

Always give more than expected.  Always do more than your share.

If you once tell a major lie, no one will fully trust you again.  If you regularly tell lies, no one will believe you even when you tell the truth.  The same thing if you steal.

Don’t use recreational drugs.  And use alcohol in moderation or not at all.  Addiction always leads to poverty, broken families, ruined lives, and often an early grave.

Don’t smoke or use tobacco.  On average, smokers die ten years before non-smokers.  It is the largest cause of premature death.

Get enough sleep.  Most people need eight to nine hours.  But don’t waste the whole day in bed.

Be slow to take offense, and never on little things, especially those involving taste.

Be slow to anger and quick to forgive.

Everyone has bad days, but don’t inflict them on others.  Greet everyone you meet with a cheery hello.  Even if he doesn’t return the greeting, you’ll feel better.

A father reads to his three young children from the Holy Bible.

“You are as much serving God in looking after your own children, and training them up in God’s fear, and minding the house, and making your household a church for God, as you would be if you had been called to lead an army to battle for the Lord of hosts.” ~ Charles Spurgeon

We are created in God’s image and need to mirror Him. My role as a wife must be of more importance than my role as a mother because we are training disciples, not making friends with our children. The payoff will be great in the years ahead because then we will enjoy friendships with our children in a new and special way. ~Esther Saunders

No success can compensate for failure in the home. ~David O. McKay

A man should never neglect his family for business. ~Walt Disney

‘The most important of the Lord’s work you will ever do will be the work you do within the walls of your own home.’ ~Harold B. Lee

Train up a child in the way he should go; and when he is old he will not depart from it. ~Proverbs 22:6

It is so obvious that the great good and the terrible evil in the world today are the sweet and the bitter fruits of the rearing of yesterday’s children. As we train a new generation, so will the world be in a few years. If you are worried about the future, then look to the upbringing of your children. ~Gordon B. Hinckley

The family is ordained of God. Marriage between man and woman is essential to His eternal plan. Children are entitled to birth within the bonds of matrimony, and to be reared by a father and a mother who honor marital vows with complete fidelity. Happiness in family life is most likely to be achieved when founded upon the teachings of the Lord Jesus Christ. ~The Family Proclamation

We need to boldly defend the Lord’s revealed doctrines describing marriage, families, the divine roles of men and women, and the importance of homes as sacred places—even when the world is shouting in our ears that these principles are outdated, limiting, or no longer relevant. ~Bonnie L. Oscarson

“First because thou lovest God; and, secondly, because that thou lovest me.” Margaret Winthrop stating reasons she loved her husband John.

We warn that individuals who violate covenants of chastity, who abuse spouse or offspring, or who fail to fulfill family responsibilities will one day stand accountable before God. Further, we warn that the disintegration of the family will bring upon individuals, communities, and nations the calamities foretold by ancient and modern prophets. ~Gordon B. American Thinker:

Judeo-Christian Culture Superior to Multiculturalism

Failure, still Key to Better Life

Shhhh: Judeo-Christian Culture Is Actually…Superior

By Stuart Schwartz

American Thinker

The founding and traditional culture of the United States, its Judeo-Christian heritage and boots-on-the-ground decency is superior to all other cultures this world has produced.  This does not mean that every thought, every person in America is superior. Rather, it means that, all things considered, the world would be a better place if Judeo-Christian traditions were dominant. ~ Stuart Schwarz

Shhh. I am about to say something so radical that it will jangle every politically correct nerve in your body. And yet…it is true. The founding and traditional culture of the United States, its Judeo-Christian heritage and boots-on-the-ground decency is superior to all other cultures this world has produced. And it certainly beats the radical worldview (part Marxist, part Islamic, and all thug) that our political and media elites . . .are imposing upon us.

Scream if you must — but then think. Think about what former Godfathers Pizza CEO Herman Cain — Christian and African-American — and so many others recognize as “the greatest country in the world.”  Outside of the cocoons of condescension wrapping the university and urban strongholds of our trendy elites, this is recognized not as jingoism but truth. Cain insists that our “unparalleled freedom” and “innovative and industrious people” have combined with “exceptional” American traditions to produce the single country to which most people want to come. Columnist/talk show host Dennis Prager notes that American success, as defined by freedom and economic opportunity, “refutes” all that our leftist elites hold dear.

Free Will, a Gift from God

So what does this mean? It means that centuries of Americans have largely been making right choices. Judeo-Christian culture joins the ability to choose — also known as free will, a gift from God — with an emphasis on individual restraint and good behavior.  Choices that reflect the virtues arising from restraint (such as a respect for individuals regardless of gender, race or religion) are better than those that do not.  Some combinations of choices are objectively superior to others. The choices made over time in the United States have produced a culture of greater value than what the American Heritage Dictionary defines as the “totality of socially transmitted behavior patterns, arts, beliefs, institutions, and all other products of human work and thought” produced by the other nations of the world.

In other words, we have a culture superior to those of other nations. The proof of the pudding is in the eating, someone wise (probably not Charlie Sheen) once said. Its value shows in a citizenry that consistently leads the world in private charitable giving while basing politics and social mobility on God-given natural rights. Everyone from any culture may enjoy these rights once they legally join a polity inseparable from its Judeo-Christian value system.

Here in this nation we have collectively created an existentially superior set of values, beliefs, and behaviors. For the vast majority of Americans, our Judeo-Christian culture works…and not only well, but better than anything else available.

Slavery in America Abolished by Culture based on Virtue

“Aargh,” you say? Double “aargh,” even. What about all that stuff I was taught in school, the America for which our Professor-in-Chief [Obama]has serially apologized? What about slavery, Jim Crow, and the hate crimes even now perpetrated against Muslims in the United States? Glad you brought that up. Slavery was abolished at great cost in lives and treasure, driven by the Christian narrative that all are equal in the eyes of God; however, it still exists in parts of the world where Judeo-Christian voices barely whisper.  Jim Crow and segregation are gone, conquered by a culture that, as Dinesh D’Souza put it in What’s So Great About Christianity, “assesses human worth not through power and possessions but through the virtue that we integrate into our daily lives.”

Islamic Slavery Continues in Islamic Countries

Meanwhile, segregation rules in Islamic countries where an official “two-tiered culture” is policed by religious leaders who resemble mafia dons rather than men of God, as Richard Butrick tells us in American Thinker.  In Iran, women are required by law to shroud themselves from head to foot and travel in the backs of buses; the Iranian Rosa Parks was stoned, not celebrated. And about that Islamophobia — ain’t happening. Even reliably leftist and radical Islam-friendly CNN was forced to acknowledge that only a bit over 8 percent of the hate crimes in the United States are against Muslims, while almost three-quarters are against Jews.

Perhaps it is time to insist that our media and universities tell the truth:

America is a great and fundamentally humane nation because of its Judeo-Christian traditions and emphasis on individual responsibility.  It does not need President Obama to “rewrite history” and credit us with “inventions that never were,” as he did in touting Islamic cultures. You won’t see Christian seminary professors leading enraged students into Cracker Barrel to behead waitresses who wear crosses for decorative, rather than religious purposes. Our culture, our traditions, our way of life is…well, better than that.

Key to Better Life—

The world would be a better place if Judeo-Christian traditions were dominant

George Washington: no freedom without God and bible

Gone would be the institutionalized hate endemic to tyrannical Islamic cultures where, by law and religious dictate, unbelievers and women are second class citizens who rely on the forbearance of a ruling class for existence. In America the exceptional, teachers are not slashed in the face and beaten senseless because they dare to educate girls. In America the exceptional, Judeo-Christian sensibilities do not celebrate savages who slit the throat of a sleeping three-month-old whose crime was “born Jewish.” And in America the exceptional, our prison guards do not “rape female dissidents before executing them, lest their victims go to heaven as virgins.”  Nor does America the exceptional allow “the institutionalized slavery and rape of prepubescent girls.”

American culture is superior. Period. This does not mean that every thought, every person in America is superior. Rather, it means that, all things considered, the world would be a better place if Judeo-Christian traditions were dominant.

Western Civilization, Judeo-Christian values vs. Leftist Utopia

Western Civilization, Judeo-Christian values vs. Leftist Utopia

The left isn’t just looking to win one more seat, elect one more radical judge, or pass one more law. They’re in it for the end goal of one, open borders, leftist utopia, and the total destruction of the Judeo-Christian values that Western civilization was built upon. We’re going to rise not just in defense of this Nation, but for the values and way of life our enemies are seeking to destroy.

These are the values which led to the Magna Carta, the Enlightenment, the Declaration of Independence, and the Bill of Rights.

This is the civilization that discovered antibiotics, cured polio, put a man on the moon, and saved the world from both Nazi Fascism, and Soviet Communism.

The time has come to RISE, and celebrate these historic truths that the mainstream media will not.

Pro-Life Victory Coming Soon? First State To Be CLINIC FREE

Amanda Prestigiacomo

Thanks to the tireless effort from brave pro-life advocates, voters, and politicians, there are a total of seven states that have only one abortion clinic left: Mississippi, North Dakota, South Dakota, Wyoming, Missouri, West Virginia, and Kentucky.

In Kentucky, the pro-life movement and mothers and their babies are on the cusp of another major victory: ridding the state entirely of the death clinics.

In a matter of weeks, the last abortion clinic in the state, EMW Women’s Clinic in Louisville, could be forced to pack up their sopher clamps and close their doors, thanks to Republican Governor Matt Bevin.

According to Bevin, EMW — which was caught performing abortions without a license in 2016 — “is not in compliance with a state law that requires it to have hospital and ambulance service agreements for patient emergencies,” reported Life News in September.

Stand for Life; Support Unborn Child Protection Act

Dear Stand4Life Supporter,

I’m asking you to follow President Trump’s lead.

The White House issued a statement in support of a House bill that would make it illegal for any person to perform, or attempt to perform, an abortion of an unborn child after 5 months.

Now that the House did its job and passed this bill, it’s time for the Senate to ACT.

Please add your name in support of the White House statement and pressure pro-abortion obstructionists in the Senate to pass the “Pain-Capable Unborn Child Protection Act.”

I can’t even imagine how anyone could think it’s okay to abort an unborn child after 5 months of pregnancy. This bill should be common sense.

But as we’ve seen time and time again, some elected officials routinely choose to stand with the abortion lobby, rather than their constituents – everyday Americans who are horrified by the thought of late-term abortion after five months.

Results only happen if we demand them.

So please, add your name in support of the White House statement and pressure pro-abortion obstructionists in the Senate to pass the “Pain-Capable Unborn Child Protection Act.”

History Facts: Judeo-Christian Values essential to Victory of Western Civilization vs. Islamic Invasion of Europe

History Facts:

Judeo-Christian Values essential to Victory of Western Civilization vs. Islamic Invasion of Europe

How Christmas Has Shaped Our History and Values

Robert Kraychik

“Christmas is essential to our understanding of Western Civilization and our values,” said Breitbart News’s Senior Editor-at-Large Rebecca Mansour

Mansour made her comments while co-hosting Breitbart News Sunday alongside Breitbart Executive Chairman Stephen K. Bannon during a special Christmas Eve live broadcast on SiriusXM.

“The symbols and celebration of Christmas have shaped our history [and] Western Civilization,” said Mansour.

Reflecting on “the dawn of Christianity,” she noted Christianity’s “transformative” impact on the old pagan world and the culture of Germanic barbarian warrior tribes.

Influence of Christian Chivalry

Chivalry — rooted in ethical monotheism — spread the concept of valuing all human life as having dignity, said Mansour:

Chivalry was introduced to Western feudalism [via Christianity]. It made feudalism actually livable and bearable. What chivalry called for, what the concept of chivalry was, it was about the defense of the weak. It said that the strong had to be champions of the right and the good against injustice and evil. That was the code of chivalry.

This only came about because of the Judeo-Christian West, and I say Judeo-Christian for a very specific reason; all of this is rooted in the ancient Jewish scripture, what the Christians would call the Old Testament. You can see it right from the beginning. The God of the Old Testament, the God of Jewish scripture instructs that every single human being has worth and dignity — even the foreigner, even somebody outside of your tribe, even the widow and the orphan. They all have worth and value — the weakest among you as well as the strong. This is a radical concept, and it is from the Jews that we have monotheism, and it is from that that Christianity evolved.

“The idea of protection of the weak and innocent,” said Mansour, entered Western culture via Judeo-Christian ethics, which radically “changed the way that we have looked at the rights of the weakest among us.”

Bannon agreed, noting that the “Rough Roman justice” of the old pagan world had “no sense of you as a person or an individual.”

Christianity’s spread to the Germanic lands on the frontiers of the Roman Empire, noted Mansour, set the stage for the evolution of conceptual human rights and created the foundation for the Western values we cherish today.

Mansour tied this to the symbols and celebration of Christmas by explaining that the “most iconic” and ancient Nativity image is the Madonna and Child.

The ubiquity of depictions of the Madonna and Child as “the highest expression of art” in European countries, said Mansour, vividly illustrates Christianity’s transformation of the “Viking-type” “warrior tribe” cultures that valued only the strong and worshipped war gods. People who once subscribed to an ethos of “might makes right” had transitioned to a civilization that elevated the image of a woman holding a child to preeminence in their artistic expressions.

Christian Symbolism—Ensign for Victory over Islamic Invasion of Europe

Christian symbolism — particularly pertaining to the Christmas-themed image of the Madonna and Child — played an indispensable role in rallying Christian forces to victory against Islamic enemies in determinative battles, said Mansour. Pointing to the Battles of Vienna (1683) and Warsaw (1920) as examples, she noted the centrality of Christian symbolism to the war efforts of European nations in defending against Islamic and communist invasions, respectively.

In both battles, Mansour explained, Catholic Poland’s devotion to a depiction of the Madonna and Child known as the Black Madonna of Częstochowa served as a rallying point and source of consolation. It also served as a unifying symbol for Lech Walesa’s Solidarity Movement in their struggles against their communist rulers in the 1980s, she noted. Walesa famously wore a lapel pin bearing the image of Our Lady of Częstochowa.

Mansour and Bannon went into particular detail about the epic Battle Vienna in 1683. As Mansour explained, the Polish King Jan III Sobieski rallied his forces to liberate the besieged city of Vienna from the Islamic army of the Ottoman Turks by encouraging them to fight for “God and Our Lady” and to invoke the Madonna’s help in securing their victory and protecting their homeland, which he had entrusted to her care when he visited the shrine at Częstochowa before departing for battle.

The allied Christian forces, known as the Holy League, under Sobieski’s command knew that if Vienna fell, the Turks would then turn their sights on their ultimate goal which, Mansour explained, was “the greatest city in Christendom — Rome,” and “if Rome fell, Holy Mother Church would fall.” The Christian forces were fighting to preserve their faith, she said.

Sobieski himself led the cavalry charge to liberate Vienna — the largest cavalry charge in history — with 18,000 Polish and allied knights, including 3,000 of the famed “Wing Hussars.” The allied forces of the Holy League smashed the Turkish army and sent them scurrying over the Danube. The victorious Sobieski sent the Pope the Turkish army’s green Islamic banner along with a message paraphrasing the words of Julius Caesar: “Veni, vidi, Deus vicit.” (“I came, I saw, God conquered.”)

“The Christians had turned the tide against the sword of Islam” in the Battle of Vienna, said Mansour, quoting Ludwig Heinrich Dyck. The Turks would never again venture that far into Western Europe.

September 11, 1683

“It was on September 11, 1683 that the conquering armies of Islam were met, held, and thrown back at the gates of Vienna,” wrote the late Christopher Hitchens, describing the rationale behind the date selection of the 9/11 Islamic terrorist attacks on the United States in 2001.

“The radicalized Muslim world,” said Bannon, views the Battle of Vienna as a symbol of Christian victory that must be overcome. “It was one of the symbols of the September 11 bombing seventeen years ago, this Battle of Vienna.”

“We would all be in mosques today” if not for Christianity and Christmas as galvanizing forces among Western societies against hostile Islamic societies, said Bannon.

Although civilizational conflict between Western and Islamic societies has modified across space and time, it continues through the present day with certain commonalities. Bannon explained:

The Siege of Vienna we’re talking about, with the Ottoman Empire — which is Turkey, and the Muslims — this whole invasion of the West, occurring literally today with the same migrant issues coming up through Syria, through Turkey, and you see the countries of Poland, and Hungary, and the Czech Republic, and Slovakia taking the lead here in trying to reverse this.

“These fights haven’t really changed all that much. It’s still Iran and the West. It’s still Persia and the West,” said Bannon, noting the similar conflictual flash points between Western forces and ISIS of today and the Roman and Persian empires of nearly two thousand years ago.

Christianity and broader Judeo-Christian values, suggested both Bannon and Mansour, reinforce Western Civilization’s sense of purpose in the face of internal and external threats.

The migration of tens of millions of Muslims to Europe in recent decades, said Bannon, is an existential threat to Europe and modern iteration of aforementioned civilization conflict between Western and Islamic societies: “The entire situation with this mass migration and refugee situation, which is really, there is no doubt, is starting to destroy Europe.”
