Great Artists, Praying Hands, and Albrecht Durer

prayinghandsQGreat Artists, Praying Hands, and Albrecht Durer

Late in the fifteenth century, two young and zealous wood-carving apprentices in France confided in each other their craving to study painting. Such study would take money and both Hans and Albrecht had none. Their joint solution was to have one work and earn money while the other one studied. When the lucky one became rich and famous, he would work and aid the other one. They tossed a coin and Albrecht won. Albrecht quickly went to Venice to study painting while Hans worked as a blacksmith.

After many hard years, at last Albrecht returned home as an independent master. Now it was his turn to help Hans. However, when Albrecht looked at his friend, tears welled in his eyes. Only then did he discover the extent of his friend’s sacrifice. The years of heavy labor in the blacksmith shop had calloused and enlarged Hans’ sensitive hands. Hans could never be a painter. In humble gratitude to Hans for his years of sacrifice, the great artist, Albrecht Durer, painted a portrait of the work-worn hands that sacrificed so much so that he might develop his talent. He presented this painting of praying hands to his devoted friend. Today, this master piece is a symbol of love and sacrifice and is familiar to millions of people throughout the world.

Bible Story: God is with Israel

Dinner Topics for Friday

keyoldThis is the last day in which the great consummation of God’s purposes will be made, the only dispensation in which the Lord has promised that sin will not prevail. ~Ezra Taft Benson

elisha2Christians faced with persecution in the 19th century were reminded by their leader: “Shall we not go on in so great a cause? Courage, brethren; and on, on to the victory! Therefore, dearly beloved brethren, let us cheerfully do all things that lie in our power; and then may we stand still, with the utmost assurance, to see the salvation of God, and for his arm to be revealed. ” ~Doctrine and Covenants 128:22; 123:17

9 And the man of God sent unto the king of Israel, saying, Beware that thou pass not such a place; for thither the Syrians are come down.

10 And the king of Israel sent to the place which the man of God told him and warned him of, and saved himself there, not once nor twice.

11 Therefore the heart of the king of Syria was sore troubled for this thing; and he called his servants, and said unto them, Will ye not shew me which of us is for the king of Israel?

12 And one of his servants said, None, my lord, O king: but Elisha, the prophet that is in Israel, telleth the king of Israel the words that thou speakest in thy bedchamber.

13 ¶And he said, Go and spy where he is, that I may send and fetch him. And it was told him, saying, Behold, he is in Dothan.

14 Therefore sent he thither horses, and chariots, and a great host: and they came by night, and compassed the city about.

15 And when the servant of the man of God was risen early, and gone forth, behold, an host compassed the city both with horses and chariots. And his servant said unto him, Alas, my master! how shall we do?

elisha416 And he answered, Fear not: for they that be with us are more than they that be with them.

17 And Elisha prayed, and said, Lord, I pray thee, open his eyes, that he may see. And the Lord opened the eyes of the young man; and he saw: and, behold, the mountain was full of horses and chariots of fire round about Elisha.

Jesus’ Teaching: Parable of the Wheat and the Tares

wheattaresTares—The word denotes darnel grass, a poisonous weed, which, until it comes into ear, is similar in appearance to wheat. ~Bible Dictionary, 780, KJV

Matthew 13:24-30; 36-42

24 ¶Another parable put he forth unto them, saying, The kingdom of heaven is likened unto a man which sowed good seed in his field:

25 But while men slept, his enemy came and sowed tares among the wheat, and went his way.

26 But when the blade was sprung up, and brought forth fruit, then appeared the tares also.

27 So the servants of the householder came and said unto him, Sir, didst not thou sow good seed in thy field? from whence then hath it tares?

enemy-sowed-tares-bible-story28 He said unto them, An enemy hath done this. The servants said unto him, Wilt thou then that we go and gather them up?

29 But he said, Nay; lest while ye gather up the tares, ye root up also the wheat with them.

30 Let both grow together until the harvest: and in the time of harvest I will say to the reapers, Gather ye together first the tares, and bind them in bundles to burn them: but gather the wheat into my barn.

36 Then Jesus sent the multitude away, and went into the house: and his disciples came unto him, saying, Declare unto us the parable of the tares of the field.

37 He answered and said unto them, He that soweth the good seed is the Son of man;

38 The field is the world; the good seed are the children of the kingdom; but the tares are the children of the wicked one;

39 The enemy that sowed them is the devil; the harvest is the end of the world; and the reapers are the angels.

Jesusinfield40 As therefore the tares are gathered and burned in the fire; so shall it be in the end of this world.

41 The Son of man shall send forth his angels, and they shall gather out of his kingdom all things that offend, and them which do iniquity;

42 And shall cast them into a furnace of fire: there shall be wailing and gnashing of teeth.

Doctrine and Covenants 38: 12

12 Which causeth silence to reign, and all eternity is pained, and the angels are waiting the great command to reap down the earth, to gather the tares that they may be burned; and, behold, the enemy is combined.

Doctrine and Covenants 86: 1-7

1 Verily, thus saith the Lord unto you my servants, concerning the parable of the wheat and of the tares:

2 Behold, verily I say, the field was the world, and the apostles were the sowers of the seed;

bible13 And after they have fallen asleep the great persecutor of the church, the apostate, the whore, even Babylon, that maketh all nations to drink of her cup, in whose hearts the enemy, even Satan, sitteth to reign—behold he soweth the tares; wherefore, the tares choke the wheat and drive the church into the wilderness.

4 But behold, in the last days, even now while the Lord is beginning to bring forth the word, and the blade is springing up and is yet tender—

5 Behold, verily I say unto you, the angels are crying unto the Lord day and night, who are ready and waiting to be sent forth to reap down the fields;

6 But the Lord saith unto them, pluck not up the tares while the blade is yet tender (for verily your faith is weak), lest you destroy the wheat also.

7 Therefore, let the wheat and the tares grow together until the harvest is fully ripe; then ye shall first gather out the wheat from among the tares, and after the gathering of the wheat, behold and lo, the tares are bound in bundles, and the field remaineth to be burned.

Prophetic Meanings of “Tares”

Note: Context here for references to the word “church” are not speaking of a specific building, location, or Christian denomination. Rather, “church” is depicted in a broader sense, meaning ideas, philosophies, teachings, or doctrines, and can be either true or false.

As opposed to the way of Jesus Christ, which is love, truth, and persuasion without compulsion, Satan’s way is hate and force. The “prophet” of Islam teaches that Allah wants them to force their “religion” upon the world. “Allah” commands his worshippers to kill all those who prefer the truth to lies, and who will not accept the Islamic “religion”. Given this as their doctrine, might we reasonably surmise that “Allah” is not really God, our loving Father? If “Allah” is not Heavenly Father, who do you think “Allah” is, really?  ~ C.A. Davidson

And another angel shall sound his trump, saying: That great church, the mother of abominations, that made all nations drink of the wine of the wrath of her fornication, that persecuteth the saints of God, that shed their blood—she who sitteth upon many waters, and upon the islands of the sea—behold, she is the tares of the earth; she is bound in bundles; her bands are made strong, no man can loose them; therefore, she is ready to be burned. And he shall sound his trump both long and loud, and all nations shall hear it. ~ Doctrine and Covenants 88:94

Question: What did Jesus mean when He identified “tares” as the “church of the devil?”

Dallin H. Oaks

wolfsheep2It [Tares, or “church of the devil”]must be any philosophy or organization that opposes belief in God. And the “captivity” into which this “church” seeks to bring the saints will not be so much physical confinement as the captivity of false ideas. ~Dallin H. Oaks

Book of Mormon prophecies describe the “great and abominable church of all the earth, whose founder is the devil” (1 Nephi 14:17). This “church” is prophesied to have “dominion over all the earth, among all nations, kindreds, tongues, and people” (1 Nephi 14:11). Called “most abominable above all other churches,” this church is also said to act “for the praise of the world” to bring “the saints of God . . . down into captivity” (1 Nephi 13:5, 9). Since no religious denomination — Christian or non-Christian — has ever had “dominion” over all nations of the earth or the potential to bring all the saints of God down into “captivity,” this great and abominable church must be something far more pervasive and widespread than a single “church” as we understand that term today.

It must be any philosophy or organization that opposes belief in God. And the “captivity” into which this “church” seeks to bring the saints will not be so much physical confinement as the captivity of false ideas.

In the Savior’s [post-resurrection] ministry among the Nephites [in ancient America], He warned against a church that “be not built upon my gospel, and is built upon the works of men, or upon the works of the devil” (3 Nephi 27:11). These warnings are not limited to religious organizations. In the circumstances of our day they include a multitude of secular philosophies and activities.

Doctrine and Covenants 101:65-66

65 Therefore, I must gather together my people, according to the parable of the wheat and the tares, that the wheat may be secured in the garners to possess eternal life, and be crowned with celestial glory, when I shall come in the kingdom of my Father to reward every man according as his work shall be;

66 While the tares shall be bound in bundles, and their bands made strong, that they may be burned with unquenchable fire.

Christian Story: Plan of Jesus is Liberty

Dinner Topics for Friday

The Cause of Our Redeemer

keyThe tyrants and antichrists of the world will not prevail against God’s plan. But liberty and our salvation are not maintained by default. The War in Heaven is the prototype for our sojourn on earth. The struggle is ongoing, and we must choose sides in the battle.   Will we choose the cause of our Redeemer, led by Jesus Christ— our Great Deliverer, the Giver of Liberty?

From the great war saga of ancient America, two prominent, opposing figures emerge. On the one hand is Amalickiah, who is described as “a man of cunning device. . . and. . .of many flattering words” who sought “to destroy the church of God, and to destroy the foundation of liberty which God had granted them.” Amalickiah typified consummate evil, proving the “great wickedness one very wicked man can cause.”(Alma 46:9,10)

Title of Liberty

Epic Hero defends Liberty and Family, by Winborg

“Now it came to pass that while Amalickiah had thus been obtaining power by fraud and deceit, Moroni, on the other hand, had been preparing the minds of the people to be faithful unto the Lord their God.”(Alma 48:7) Moroni told Pahoran, “Behold, I am Moroni, your chief captain. I seek not for power, but to pull it down. I seek not for honor of the world, but for the glory of my God, and the freedom and welfare of my country.”(Alma 60:36)

Amalickiah’s insatiable lust for power spawned a massive war machine, bearing down on the Nephites, seeking to crush the last breath of freedom.

But for Moroni, even a small “spark of freedom” was enough to dispel the darkness of tyranny. “Show unto me a true spirit of freedom,” he told Pahoran, “and I will come unto you.” (Alma 60:25,27)

Pahoran assured Moroni that indeed a spark of freedom remained, for the beleaguered freemen had not lost the Spirit of God, which is the spirit of freedom. (Alma 61:15)

Heartened by Moroni’s offer of help, Pahoran continued, “Therefore, my beloved brother, Moroni, let us resist evil, and whatsoever evil we cannot resist with our words, yea, such as rebellions and dissensions, let us resist them with our swords, that we may retain our freedom, that we may rejoice in the great privilege of our church, and in the cause of our Redeemer and our God.”(Alma 61:14)

“At this time, Moroni prayed that the cause of the Christians, and the freedom of the land might be favored.” (Alma 46:16) A “cause” is defined as “a principle or movement militantly, aggressively, or with combat; defended or supported.”[1]

war-in-heavenWhy did the cause of the peace-loving Christians have to be defended with combat? The king-men would not listen to words. They intended to impose their desires by force. Therefore the sword was the only thing they would understand.

So, what is our Redeemer’s cause?

When Satan sought to destroy the agency or free will of all mankind, Jesus gathered the souls of the righteous to defend freedom. Jesus set forth the glorious cause of freedom, and Michael was his commander in chief. This led to an all out war in heaven.

Temptation of Christ by Carl Bloch

Temptation of Christ by Carl Bloch

Just as Jesus and Satan clashed in heaven, so the forces of Amalickiah precipitated a great war for freedom in the choice land of promise.

Might the ancient historian have had Jesus and Michael in mind when he laboriously engraved this epic struggle for liberty?

Our Redeemer’s cause is liberty because the Spirit of God is also the spirit of freedom. (2 Cor. 3:17) If we miss the point of the war saga, we miss the very essence of God’s plan of salvation. Without liberty, the gospel could not flourish. Without the gospel of Jesus Christ, mankind would be doomed to spiritual bondage.

“Human liberty is the mainspring of human progress. The one great revolution in the world is the revolution for human liberty.   This was the paramount issue in the great council in heaven before this earth life. It has been the issue throughout the ages. It is the issue today. . . we also note the complacency of the people and their frequent willingness to give up their liberty for the promises of a would-be provider.”[2]

The tyrants and antichrists of the world will not prevail against God’s plan. But liberty and our salvation are not maintained by default. This message from history to us is that the War in Heaven is the prototype for our sojourn on earth. The struggle is ongoing, and we must choose sides in the battle.   Will we choose the cause of our Redeemer, led by Jesus Christ— our Great Deliverer, the Giver of Liberty?

If— like the stripling warriors and other epic heroes— we obey with exactness, endure valiantly in defending our Redeemer’s cause, and trust in God, He will deliver us.

Bible Story: Building on the Rock

Building on the Rock

Trust in God is a solid foundation upon which to build our lives. In the Word of God, we have a rock-solid foundation upon which to build our lives, given us straight from the Lord Himself.

keyoldBe still, and know that I am God. ~Psalms 46:10

Fear thou not; for I am with thee; be not dismayed; for I am thy God; I will strengthen thee; yea, I will help the; yea, I will uphold thee with the right hand of my righteousness. ~ Isaiah 41:10

buildingrocksandRemember that it is upon the rock of our Redeemer, who is Christ, the Son of God, that ye must build your foundation; that the devil …shall have no power over you …because of the rock upon which ye are built, which is a sure foundation, a foundation whereon if men build they cannot fall. ~Helaman 5:12

Jesus Christ himself being the chief corner stone. ~Ephesians 2:20

Therefore, whoso heareth these sayings of mind and doeth them, I will liken him unto a wise man, who built his house upon a rock—and the rain descended, and the floods came, and the winds blew, and beat upon that house; and it fell not, for it was founded upon a rock.

And every one that heareth these sayings of mine and doeth them not shall be likened unto a foolish man, who built his house upon the sand—and the rain descended, and the floods came, and the winds blew, and beat upon that house; and it fall, and great was the fall of it. ~Matthew 7:26

Real Foundation

We do not need more material development, we need more spiritual development. We do not need more intellectual power, we need more moral power. We do not need more knowledge, we need more character. We do not need more government, we need more culture. We do not need more law, we need more religion. We do not need more of the things that are seen, we need more of the things that are unseen. It is on that side of life that it is desirable to put the emphasis at the present time. If that side is strengthened, the other side will take care of itself. It is that side which is the foundation of all else. If the foundation be firm, the super-structure will stand. ~Calvin Coolidge

Valentine Bible Story

Dinner Topics for Valentine Day

keyoldBut charity is the pure love of Christ, and it endureth forever; and whoso is found possessed of it at the last day, it shall be well with him. (Moroni 7:47)

JacobRachel2On his way to Padan-aram, where Rachel lived, Jacob had a dream about a ladder which reached up to heaven. Each rung of that ladder represented covenants he needed to keep in order to reach the celestial realm.  He was promised that he and all his seed would be blessed.

When he reached the well near Haran, he found a huge stone over the mouth of it. Three flocks were lying by it, waiting for the shepherds to unite their strength to push the stone out of the way.  After the sheep were watered, they put the stone back over the well’s mouth.

Jacob inquired after his relatives, and the men of Haran pointed out Rachel, Jacob’s cousin, who was coming with her sheep to the well.

“It is too early in the day for the cattle to gather here,” he said to the men.  “Why don’t you water her sheep now?”

“We can’t,” they replied, “until all the flocks are gathered together and they roll the stone from the well’s mouth.  Then we can water the sheep.”

JacobmoverockBut when Jacob saw Rachel, he strode over, rolled the great stone himself, and watered her flocks.  But that is not all.  Jacob went on to serve seven years for Rachel; and they seemed unto him but a few days, for the love he had to her.

Before Jacob met Rachel, he had learned from his dream that he wanted an eternal family.  Rachel gave shape to that vision.  When he saw Rachel, his love for her gave him the power to roll that stone away from the well all by himself.  His understanding of God’s great love for him, together with his deep love for Rachel, made joyful a commitment which could otherwise have been unbearably long and trying.  The seven years seemed like days to him.

Perhaps there is a heavy stone blocking the mouth of the well, and keeping us from drinking the living waters of the gospel.  It might be fear, or discord.  It might be unwillingness to sacrifice our time, or give of our substance.  It might be apathy, in which perhaps we are wasting time waiting for someone else to move that stone.

JacobRachelA prophet of ancient Israel said, “Perfect love casteth out all fear.” Once we catch the immense vision of discipleship and service, then realizing that vision no longer seems hopeless or impossible to endure.  It becomes a joy.  It is love that helps us forgo our irritations with the defects in others.  It is love that causes us to forget about ourselves and care about others.  It is the power of love that heals relationships and softens hearts.  Love gives us the power to do things which on the surface seem impossible or unbearable.  It was because of love that Jesus Christ suffered the unbearable.  It was this love that gave a compassionate Father the capacity to endure the anguish of permitting that infinite sacrifice— so that we could enter his presence someday, which would otherwise be impossible.

Christian Story: Watchman on the Tower

Dinner Topics for Friday

Only alertness, teaching truth, and keeping God’s commandments will help us defend our faith and push back the enemy. Vigilance applies to a host of current events in our lives today.

watchmantowerAnd set awatchmen round about them, and build a tower, that one may overlook the land round about, to be a watchman upon the tower, that mine olive trees may not be broken down when the enemy shall come to spoil and take upon themselves the fruit of my vineyard.

Now, the servants of the nobleman went and did as their lord commanded them, and planted the olive trees, and built a hedge round about, and set watchmen, and began to build a tower.

And while they were yet laying the foundation thereof, they began to say among themselves: And what need hath my lord of this tower?

And consulted for a long time, saying among themselves: What need hath my lord of this tower, seeing this is a time of peace?

Might not this money be given to the exchangers? For there is no need of these things.

And while they were at variance one with another they became very aslothful, and they hearkened not unto the commandments of their lord.

enemy-sowed-tares-bible-storyAnd the enemy came by night, and broke down the ahedge; and the servants of the nobleman arose and were affrighted, and fled; and the enemy destroyed their works, and broke down the olive trees.

Now, behold, the nobleman, the lord of the avineyard, called upon his servants, and said unto them, Why! what is the cause of this great evil?

Ought ye not to have done even as I commanded you, and—after ye had planted the vineyard, and built the hedge round about, and set watchmen upon the walls thereof—built the tower also, and set a awatchman upon the tower, and watched for my vineyard, and not have fallen asleep, lest the enemy should come upon you?

Christian Man Asks Thirteen Gay Bakeries To Bake Him Pro-Traditional Marriage Cake, And Is Denied Service By All Of Them

By Theodore Shoebat

Say that “Bestiality Is Wrong” or “Polygamy Is Wrong” and it’s not considered hate speech, but if you have the opinion that “Gay Marriage Is Wrong” the whole world jumps up and down screaming “racism” “bigotry” and “hatred”.

This is becoming the politically-correct norm, but no matter what one argues, this is suppressing free speech.

freedomofspeechNo one targeted pro-gay bakeries, but gay activists target Christian bakeries. “Support Gay Marriage” is one Christian bakery was sued for refusing to put that slogan on a cake for an event to support the gay agenda. Yet Christian bakeries that refuse to make pro-homosexual marriage cakes are getting sued left, right, and center.  They get fined, they get death threats, and they lose their businesses. This experiment proves beyond doubt that the gay agenda is not just about their freedom to practice a sexual orientation, but the suppression of free speech.

It doesn’t matter who loves who, UNTIL. . .

PC-TruthRush Limbaugh

RUSH: Another favorite trick in all of this: “Why are you so upset just because of who people love?” You’ve seen that phrase bandied about in this. “It’s discriminatory to care about who people love, and love is a great thing. Why are you objecting to it?” Well, I can tell you right now, I could mention I love somebody, and it wouldn’t be accepted. I would be called a bigot and any number of other bad names. All I would have to do is say, “I love, Jesus Christ.”

That is not permitted.

That makes you a bigot and whatever else, because that’s what the left is scared to death of. All of this, every bit of this is about the left’s visceral fear of religion. So the next time you get caught up in this argument and they accuse you of being a bigot or a discriminator because, “What’s wrong with this? What’s it matter who loves who?” say, “Yeah, you know, I love Jesus Christ,” and that’s like — oh, my! — showing Dracula the cross.

Twitter Bombs: Science of Smear and Intimidation to close down small businesses

millennials-twitterThe fact is, they are a handful of malcontents who despise capitalism. I know this from experience: local advertisers on an EIB affiliate in, say, Oshkosh will get inundated with complaint emails and tweets from people: “We’re never going to shop at your store again unless you stop advertising on that station.” Our investigation discovered that it’s ten, maybe 12 people who make themselves appear to be 500,000 or more. We found out that in most cases, the complaint emails come from out of state, and not from legitimate customers.

Religious Freedom Restoration Act—1993

“A federal RFRA signed by President Clinton in 1993 shares language with Indiana and other states’ bills, prohibiting the government from ‘substantially burdening’ individuals’ exercise of religion unless it is for a ‘compelling government interest’ and is doing so in the least restrictive means.”

Sixteen additional states have introduced similar “legislation this year regarding the creation of, or alteration to, a state religious freedom law. Currently, 19 states have Religious Freedom Restoration Acts (RFRAs).”

When Barack Obama was an Illinois state senator, he voted “for a version of the Religious Freedom Restoration Act. It passed the Illinois Senate 56-0 and became law on July 1, 1998.” So why all the same-sex angst over Indiana’s law?

The Hobby Lobby Case

AbortionRU486PIXRUSH: Does anybody remember what Hobby Lobby was about? Would you tell me? I want to see if you do remember. What the Hobby Lobby was all about was, Hobby Lobby is owned and run and operated by Christians and they do not believe in abortion, and Obamacare was mandating that they pay for abortifacients for their employees. In other words, Obamacare was mandating the people at Hobby Lobby pay their female employees for the ability to induce abortion.

And they said: We’re not gonna do it. If you want to have an abortion, pay for it yourself.

So the Regime jumped right on ’em and said, “What do you mean? The law is the law. To hell with your religion. The law is the law. And if your female employees or anybody want to induce an abortion, you gotta make it available in your health care,” and Hobby Lobby won the case at the Supreme Court. And what she’s saying here, we realized when that started happening, we don’t have the same kind of protections in Indiana. We wanted to double down on ’em.

2015

All that everybody recognizes here is that religious people in this country are being ganged up on. There’s no denying that, because they are a majority, and, as such, they’re automatically considered to be oppressors.

RUSH: Exactly. Exactly what I told you yesterday, exactly why these people are the enemy. They are the majority, and majorities, when the liberals are not in them, are unjust and they’re immoral and they’re not to be permitted. They are to be destroyed. When the left is not in the majority that everybody’s talking about, that majority is automatically an oppressor, it discriminates, it’s mean-spirited, it’s radical, it’s extreme, it’s all these things. And so he’s saying to the lieutenant governor, “Well, peyote, Native Americans.” The fact that they were a minority had nothing to do with peyote being exempted from the law.

WarOnChristianityI don’t think there’s any question that militants like this, they are bullies, and they attempt to gain victory via intimidation, and they’re trying to intimidate anybody who might stand up and oppose them. That’s exactly how it works. As I mentioned earlier in the busy broadcast today, let’s go look at the case in New Mexico where we had a photographer, a lady owns a little photography store, and in walks a gay couple wanting her to photograph their wedding.

She says no. My religion opposes gay marriage, and it would be immoral for me. So they go to the news media, they make a news story out of it, lawsuits left and right, intimidate this poor woman, she’s the worst example of living, breathing bigotry that there is, and they end up putting her out of business. The way that happened was, her existing clientele were frightened into staying away. Once her store became publicly known by everybody, and once her photography shop, her studio was associated with anti-gay bigotry, and every existing customer she had saw exactly what happened to her, they said, “You know what? I don’t want these people coming after me. So I’m not gonna patronize this studio.” And she lost her customer base.

The same thing happened to a bakery, I think it was in Denver, somewhere in Colorado, same thing.

PC-feelingsThe existing clientele end up being intimidated in staying away because they think that the activists are keeping a sharp eye on anybody that goes in that store, and they could be targeted, too. So the first caller today probably would agree, yeah, that’s the only sensible thing to do, just don’t patronize these places because you’re just gonna end up being a target yourself. And that’s the objective. This kind of intimidation.

At the end of it, how can you blame the gay activists? Look, the bakery went out of business and the photography studio went out of business. All we did was ask her to photograph our wedding and they said no and they go out of business, that’s kind of justified, right? They’re bigots and they’re homophobes. But that’s not why they went out. They went out of business because everybody’s scared to death. So this law comes along to protect the scared-to-death.

The Religious Freedom Restoration Act is a shield that basically says that people like this cannot be discriminated against, cannot lose their businesses because of religious views. It’s not a weapon. The Religious Freedom Restoration Act does not give anybody the ammunition to discriminate against or otherwise be bigoted against anybody else. It’s about totally misconstrued, misreported, but that’s the name of the game.

The worst thing you can do is back away from it. I think what Pence should have done — this is just off the top of my head, and I don’t like actually doing this because it’s easy for somebody like me, not even in Indiana, to sit here and say this is what he should have done, I would do this. But this is what I would have done if I’d have been involved. I’d have gone out there and said, “You know what, you want the law changed? Fine, you know what I’m gonna do, I’m gonna rewrite this law so that it is word-for-word what Chuck Schumer wrote in 1993 and what Bill Clinton signed into law.”

RUSH: You know, I don’t know what everybody’s so hysterical about. The photographer in New Mexico… Elaine Huguenin is her name. The name of her company was Elaine Photography. She refused service for the 2007 commitment ceremony of a lesbian couple. She lost her business. They’ve got a Religious Freedom Restoration Act in New Mexico. It did not save her business. The Colorado baker was a guy named Jack Phillips. He owned the Masterpiece Bakery.

The Religious Freedom Restoration Act did not save Elaine’s company, either, nor the bakery. Neither the federal law nor the New Mexico law saved the businesses. Nor did it shield them. I don’t know why. I don’t know what everybody’s so hysterical about because the law didn’t even stop the discrimination by the militant homosexuals in this case. Anyway, I have to make these points because when stories like this hit the news, none of it is true. It’s striking, how little factual truth there is to these highly charged emotional culture related stories.

It’s about Religion, not Minorities

persecutingchristiansIt was all about their religion. It had nothing to do with the fact they’re Native Americans. And the Amish, LED, had nothing to do with the fact that they’re a minority. It was all to do with their religious belief. No different here. Christians, these people being discussed, do not believe in gay marriage. They do not believe that homosexual marriage is legit and they don’t want to be forced to have to honor it. No different than the Indians, “Hey, you can’t deny me my peyote. That’s part of my religious belief.” And Clinton signed into law praising it and praising God and all of this.

But the Left, ever-vigilant against group-based slights on behalf of favored constituencies, is only too eager to label orthodox Christians as threats to the public. This bigotry has a purpose. It serves to demonize the last significant constituency standing in the way of sexual revolution radicalism.”

Purpose of Bigotry against Christians

RUSH:”This bigotry,” the kind I just described, “has a purpose. “It serves to demonize the last significant constituency standing in the way of sexual revolution radicalism. After all, unless you demonize your opposition, the general public will have little appetite for forcing Christians to pay for abortion pills, forcing Christian groups to open up to atheist leadership,” as the Episcopal Church did, “or forcing Christian bakers or photographers to help celebrate events they find morally offensive.”

Opposition to Indiana law proves the need for it

In order to gain dominance in the culture, homosexual activists must diminish the influence of religion. That’s the view of a conservative talk-radio host in Indiana who supports that state’s religious freedom bill.

Indiana has taken a beating after Governor Mike Pence signed that measure into law last week, with some corporations saying they are considering a boycott of the state in response. The measure is designed to protect people of faith, but homosexual activists and their sympathizers say it legalizes discrimination against individuals because of their sexual orientation.

Peter Heck, a talk-radio host and columnist in Indiana, spoke with OneNewsNow about the ongoing controversy.

“… One of the most curious things about this is how this became a bill that legalizes discrimination,” he says. “You have all of these folks from around the nation boycotting Indiana over what is a law that basically just defends the rights of conscience and the right of association that we all hold sacred, whether we’re religious people or not.”

Fascism Today

Heck contends the loud voice against the law “if anything demonstrates the need for it.” He says “it is the reincarnation of a neo-fascist view.”PERSECUTED - In theaters July 18th. (PRNewsFoto/One Media LLC)

You believe like me, you think like me, you endorse and embrace what I’m doing – or we will punish you, we’ll fine you, we’ll evict you through the power of the state,” he summarizes the threats of the opposition.

“That is not a direction that a free society wants to be moving in,” he concludes, “and it certainly is not a movement that you want to be associated with if you consider yourself a friend of freedom.”

Heck cites many instances of homosexuals attempting to drive Christians underground, but the new law would protect them as well as homosexuals who consider themselves people of faith. That’s why Heck says activists opposed to the law – whose spokesmen regularly call for open-mindedness and tolerance – are clearly demonstrating they are, in fact, “a sworn enemy of both.”

Bible Story: Jesus, Chastity, and Virtue

Dinner Topics for Thursday

Month-Defining Moment

Virtue

The Webster 1828 American Dictionary gives 10 definitions for Virtue. Here are the ones which are most important in our society today.

keyold Jesus was so clean, so pure, that from His very purity flowed the divine power of healing. ~C.D.

Virtue—1. Moral goodness; the practice of moral duties and the abstaining from vice, or a conformity of life and conversation to the moral law. In this sense, virtue may be, and in many instances must be, distinguished from religion. The Practice of moral duties merely from motives of convenience, or from compulsion, or from regard to reputation, is virtue, as distinct from religion. The practice of moral duties from sincere love to God and his laws is virtue and religion.

  1. A particular moral excellence; as the virtue of temperance, of chastity, of charity.
  2. Acting power; something efficacious.

Jesus, knowing that virtue had gone out of him, turned—Mark 5:25-34

Bible Story

Jesus-hem-lge25 And a certain woman, which had an issue of blood twelve years,

26 And had suffered many things of many physicians, and had spent all that she had, and was nothing bettered, but rather grew worse,

27 When she had heard of Jesus, came in the press behind, and touched his garment.

28 For she said, If I may touch but his clothes, I shall be whole.

29 And straightway the fountain of her blood was dried up; and she felt in her body that she was healed of that plague.

30 And Jesus, immediately knowing in himself that virtue had gone out of him, turned him about in the press, and said, Who touched my clothes?

31 And his disciples said unto him, Thou seest the multitude thronging thee, and sayest thou, Who touched me?

32 And he looked round about to see her that had done this thing.

33 But the woman fearing and trembling, knowing what was done in her, came and fell down before him, and told him all the truth.

34 And he said unto her, Daughter, thy faith hath made thee whole; go in peace, and be whole of thy plague.

purityThe Collegiate Dictionary connects virtue to chastity, especially in women.

The opposite of virtue is vice.
