Muslim Brotherhood to be declared a Terrorist Organization

President-elect Donald Trump is about to send a message loud and clear that Islam’s “Shariah [law is] incompatible with [the United States] Constitution” as he prepares to designate the Muslim Brotherhood as a terrorist group.

“The Muslim Brotherhood’s days of influencing the United States government may be coming to an end, and those who are expert in the field of Islamist activism and the threat of terror are pleased,” WND reports. “President-elect Donald Trump is reportedly preparing to jumpstart a bill in Congress that would ban the Muslim Brotherhood by declaring it a terrorist organization.”

Trump’s foreign policy adviser, Walid Phares, is confident that Trump will follow through by calling a spade a spade and formally recognize the controversial group as a militant Islamic terrorist organization. He announced Trump’s plan to the Egyptian news outlet, Youm7, and explained that a bill exists in Congress to designate the Muslim Brotherhood as a terrorist group, but noted that the Obama administration has refused to pass the bill due to the president’s support of the Brotherhood – with whom he want to stay on friendly terms.

“This is what the Department of Homeland Security was created for in the first place – to protect the American people from the threat of terrorism both foreign and domestic – so all he’s doing is following the policies of the original purpose of DHS,” Haney, who authored See Something, Say Nothing: A Homeland Security Officer Exposes the Government’s Submission to Jihad,  told WND. “This is what we were actually supposed to do clear back in 2003, when the agency was formed.”

American Freedom Defense Initiative (AFDI) President Pamela Geller, who wrote the book Stop the Islamization of America,  also welcomed the news of Trump’s plans with open arms.

“It’s long overdue and much needed,” Geller insisted, according to WND. “We can only hope that it will stop Muslim Brotherhood infiltration into the U.S. government.”

Protecting Americans, not terrorists …

obama-muslim-brotherhood-infiltrateThe bill to declare the Muslim Brotherhood a terrorist group was introduced a year ago this month by Sen. Ted Cruz (R-Texas), who was tired of the Obama administration skirting the issue and continuing to keep Americans in danger by defending jihadists.

“We have to stop pretending that the Brotherhood are not responsible for the terrorism they advocate and finance,” Cruz told the Washington Free Beacon in November 2015. “We have to see it for what it is: a key international organization dedicated to waging violent jihad.”

It is also maintained that the Islamic terrorist organization secretly works with other Muslim American groups to spread jihad across the U.S.

The bill examines the Muslim Brotherhood’s history of terrorism and shows how it is linked to three prominent American Muslim organizations: the Council on American-Islamic Relations (CAIR), the Islamic Society of North America (ISNA), and the North American Islamic Trust (NAIT),” WND’s Paul Bremmer informed. “The legislation was approved by the House Judiciary Committee earlier this year and referred to the Senate Foreign Relations Committee, which has not taken action on it.”

Trump will be joining Russia, Egypt, Syria, Saudi Arabia, Bahrain and the United Arab Emirates to make the U.S. become the seventh nation to officially declare the Muslim Brotherhood as a terrorist organization.

Bold Stance against Shariah and Jihad

By making the designation, Haney says the U.S. will be making a bold statement to militant Muslims worldwide who have taken advantage of America’s weakness and unwillingness to fight jihad head-on.

MuslimWarrior“It’ll send a signal to the entire Salafi, pro-Shariah, pro-jihad Islamic world that we’re serious again about protecting our borders, and that we will do it without firing a single shot or dropping a single bomb anywhere,” Haney stressed. “And that’s very significant. We talk about peace through strength and walking softly and carrying a big stick – well, this is a good example of it.”

Using Islam’s own mottos to prove his point, Haney shared the religion’s beliefs to show that the very tenets of Islam run contrary to religious liberty in America.

“Allah is our objective; the Quran is the Constitution; the Prophet is our leader; jihad is our way; death for the sake of Allah is our wish,” Haney said, reciting popular Islamic chants.

Haney stressed that there are some things the American government must get straight if it does not want to succumb to Islamic terrorism.

“The Muslim Brotherhood has quite plainly stated what their intentions are, so we should simply take them at their word and by designating them as a terrorist organization,

Staying on course…

consitution-bill-rightsEven though some are wary that Trump will not hold to his plan to declare the Muslim Brotherhood a terrorist group, Geller is confident that he will do all he can to eradicate the influence of Islamic militants from the government.

“So far, he has stuck to his guns through a presidential campaign – during which he was subjected to vicious and relentless attacks for those positions,” Geller contended. “That gives me hope that he will follow through.”

Not quite as confident that Trump will stick to his resolve to declare the Brotherhood a terrorist organization, Haney is still cautiously optimistic.

“He thinks a terrorist designation of the Muslim Brotherhood could set the stage for a follow-up to the 2008 Holy Land Foundation trial, in which various charities and leaders affiliated with the Brotherhood were found to have been funding Hamas terrorists,” Haney asserted. “But he sees it as even more important than a second trial.”

The national security expert is adamant that such a designation is imperative if the U.S. is to take the reins and win the war on terror – and no longer take a vacation from the conflict, as it has done over the past eight years with the Obama administration.

“If you designate the Muslim Brotherhood organization, not only does it provide incentive for the Holy Land trial part two, but it also puts the people that are in the Muslim Brotherhood that are having any kind of influence in the U.S. government on notice that they will no longer be given access to positions of influence and authority within the social arena, political arena and law enforcement arena, which are the three areas they’ve been operating almost unhindered for the last eight years, if not longer,” Haney concluded.

Donald Trump winning the presidency based on his promise to torpedo globalism came exactly 27 years after the fall of the Berlin Wall, and represents the second leg down for “World Socialism.”

globalismAlthough U.S. history books declare capitalist United States the victor in World War II, it was World Socialism that ended up dominating most of the globe. Soviet Union and China carved out massive communist states, India adopted extreme socialism, and communist insurgencies were ascendant in Southeast Asia, Africa and South America.

Socialist governments controlled Western Europe and the idea that the state should play some kind of role in economic life was not seen as strange or unusual. Socialists differed on just how extensive the role of the state should be, but all agreed that “natural monopolies” like the railroad, phone service, health and electricity should be nationalized.

Paul Samuelson’s Economics was the top selling U.S. economics textbook from the 1960s through the 1980s. It proclaimed world socialism’s more efficient use of resources would allow the Soviet Union’s Gross National Product to pass the U.S. economy by 1984.

Stiglitz stated that the “rise of China also shines a harsh spotlight on the American model,” due to capitalist economic and political “systemic deficiencies — that are corrupt.” He demanded that America must “pivot” to accept that the economic interests of China and the U.S. are now “intricately intertwined” in the new global order.

China would boast that it played a “crucial role” in formulating a new global development pact called “Agenda 2030,” which was signed by 193 members of the United Nations on September 28, 2015. The world socialist and corporatist pact aimed at re-engineering civilization through that imposition of 17 “Sustainable Development Goals” and setting 169 accompanying targets in what was referred to as a “Great Leap Forward.”

China said that to “combat inequality domestically is simply not enough — international socialism is needed to battle inequality even among countries.”

Socialists know that when President Reagan went rogue with his muscular capitalist policies, communism quickly imploded. Trump seems determined to destroy “Socialist Globalization” with the same capitalist tax cuts and regulatory relief that President Reagan used to destroy communism.

Even before Donald Trump takes the oath of office on January 20th of next year, he has already made the history books.

TrumpHat-not-screw-up-countryIn the 240 years of our Republic, not one person has ever been elected to the presidency without having served in public office or as a general of the Army.

On Election Day the American people picked one of the best-known businessmen in the nation to become its 45th president.

This news completely flummoxed the media and political establishment.

On election night at about 5 PM Eastern, I received a call from one of the top political guns in the country.

He told me the exit poll data and other tracking numbers were showing a Hillary win of 320 to 330 electoral votes. [The AP later confirmed that’s what the data was showing.] Practically every pollster in the nation had a similar opinion.

They were almost all wrong.

expertShakespeare has this oft quoted line about killing all the lawyers, but I think we should just simply say kill the political experts.

That’s the remarkable thing about Donald Trump’s success: he relied on few political consultants and little polling. Trump never believed in experts.

As he said, to the consternation of some in the media, he thought he had a pretty good brain himself.

They laughed at him, but it turned out to be quite true.

In some ways hes like the Warren Buffett of politics.

Buffett remarked he never understood why people that drive Rolls-Royces seek stock advice from people on Wall Street who take the subway to work every day.

  1. Pragmatism. Donald Trump is not an ideologue. He believes in ideas, but only if they work. He primarily wants results. Expect opening moves that show he will have a sensible approach to governing. Don’t expect massive deportations or any blanket Muslim ban. Do expect quick deportations of illegal alien criminals and much more scrutiny of individuals coming from terrorist countries.
  2. A Policy President. Some presidents enjoy the managerial aspects of the job and they usually end up as disasters. Think Jimmy Carter. Trump will be much more Reaganesque in his approach, setting broad policies for his administration, but focusing his talents on selling those programs to Congress and the public.
  3. Bipartisan. We just went through one of the most bitter elections in history. Trump’s inclination is to be bipartisan. Remember, like Reagan, he was a Democrat most of his life. On a personal level many Democrats in the House and Senate will tell you that they like Trump. Trump is a deal guy, and he will work to bring a divided Congress together. Expect a major fix on Obamacare but not a full repeal. Trump will keep blanket health coverage for catastrophic care, but he will reduce costly mandates.

It’s still two months until a new president takes the oath of office, but battle lines are already being drawn over Planned Parenthood.

abortion-defund-p-parenthoodDuring his campaign, President-elect Donald Trump stood firm on defunding Planned Parenthood, but said he would only support stripping the funds if the nation’s largest abortion-provider refuses to stop doing abortions. A fight over the funding is expected in Congress – but American Life League is hopeful that with Mike Pence as his vice president, Trump might be convinced to de-fund regardless.

“[Pence] was the guy who single-handedly in 2007 wrote the first amendment to a bill in Congress that specifically named Planned Parenthood and tried to take all the money away from them,” explains ALL spokesman Jim Sedlak. “So Mike Pence is an absolute opponent of Planned Parenthood – and we’re hoping that he will have an influence on Mr. Trump.”

Pence told a reporter in 2007:

“If Planned Parenthood wants to be involved in providing counseling services and HIV testing, they ought not be in the business of providing abortions. As long as they aspire to do that, I’ll be after them.”

President-elect Donald Trump says he will only accept $1 for his salary as president.

trump-thumbTrump made the comments during a sit-down interview with CBS “60 Minutes,” which aired in full Sunday evening. During the interview, the president-elect even admitted that he doesn’t even know what the president’s salary is.

“I’ve never commented on this, but the answer is ‘no,’” Trump said when asked by host Lesley Stahl whether or not he’ll accept the presidential salary.

“I think I have to by law take $1, so I’ll take $1 a year,” he added. “But it’s a — I don’t even know what it is. Do you know what the salary is?”

Stahl informed Trump that the current presidential salary is set at an annual rate of $400,000.

“No, I’m not going to take the salary. I’m not taking it,” Trump reiterated.

If Trump were to forgo the presidential salary, he would be only the third president in history to do so. Presidents Herbert Hoover and John F. Kennedy declined to accept their presidential salaries, instead donating it to charity.

President-elect Donald Trump is reportedly preparing to jumpstart a bill in Congress that would ban the Muslim Brotherhood by declaring it a terrorist organization.

Trump foreign-policy adviser Walid Pheres told Egyptian news outlet Youm7 that the legislation, introduced a year ago by U.S. Sen. Ted Cruz, R-Texas, was held up due to the Obama administration’s support of the group. But Trump plans to back the bill.

Cruz’s bill, the Muslim Brotherhood Terrorist Designation Act of 2015-16, identifies the Brotherhood and three of its offshoots, including the Council on American-Islamic Relations and Islamic Society of North America, as a terrorist organization.

The Brotherhood is already banned as a subversive organization in Russia and at least five Arab countries, including Syria, Saudi Arabia and its home base of Egypt. And the Brotherhood’s self-avowed “Palestine” branch – Hamas – was added to the U.S. State Department’s list of foreign terrorist organizations in 1997.

Former Rep. Michele Bachmann, who introduced similar legislation during her last term in office, said such action is long overdue. It has been clear since the Holy Land Foundation terror financing trial in 2007-08 that the Brotherhood is working through front groups toward an agenda of Islamic supremacy, which the Brotherhood calls “civilization jihad.”

“First, it is imperative to know the enemy,” Bachmann told WND. “The fundamental purpose of the Muslim Brotherhood is to supplant all societal structures, even in non-Islamic countries like the United States, with Islamic Shariah law.”

When Bachmann introduced her legislation in 2012, she named Secretary of State Hillary Clinton’s top aide, Huma Abedin, as an example of the Muslim Brotherhood agents who have infiltrated the federal government. She came under intense pressure to drop the issue from both Democrats and Republicans. Among her critics was former Rep. Mike Rogers, R-Mich., who called Abedin “an American patriot.”

“I have no information in my committee that would indicate that Huma is anything other than an American patriot,” Rogers told USA Today in 2012.

The prime minister and president-elect “who have known each other for many years, had a warm, heartfelt conversation” over the phone, the statement said.

“President-elect Trump invited Prime Minister Netanyahu to a meeting in the United States at the first opportunity,” it said.

Netanyahu responded by saying that he and his wife Sara were excited to visit the incoming commander-in-chief and his wife Melania.

According to the PMO, regional issues were also discussed during the phone conversation, though no details were disclosed.

Earlier on Wednesday, Netanyahu congratulated Trump on his election victory, saying the Republican is “a true friend of the State of Israel.”

“We will work together to advance security, stability and peace in our region,” Netanyahu said in a statement.

“The bond between the U.S. and Israel is based on shared values, shared interests and a shared future. I am sure that President-elect Trump and I will continue to strengthen the unique bond between Israel and the U.S. and we will bring them to greater heights,” he added.

Obama’s signature global trade deal won’t be ratified by Congress

liberal-flush_tppBarack Obama, upon taking over the White House in 2009, told Republicans bluntly that “elections have consequences” and proceeded to bulldoze over the opposing party’s priorities and requests.

This year, Donald Trump has not even taken the oath of office and some of those consequences are apparent.

For one, Obama’s long-sought dream of the Trans Pacific Partnership trade deal apparently is dead.

That’s according to Sen. Chuck Schumer, who likely will be the top Democrat in the incoming Senate.

The Hill reported the signals coming from Schumer to Obama are clear.

The report said Schumer “told the AFL-CIO executive council that lawmakers won’t ratify the Trans Pacific Partnership.”

“Schumer, who has voiced concerns that the deal doesn’t do enough to crack down currency manipulation, told CNBC’s John Harwood in mid-October that he thought the TPP ‘may well get’ 51 votes if Majority Leader Mitch McConnell, R-Ky., brought it to the floor in the lame-duck session,” the report said.

However, with Trump now preparing to move into the Oval Office, his well-known opposition to TPP is exerting more influence.

House Speaker Paul Ryan, R-Wis., and Senate Majority Leader Mitch McConnell, R-Ky., already had expressed doubts about support for the deal.

‘Night and day’ difference between the 2 candidates

And one pastor is arguing they should stand by the Republican nominee regardless of what the media says, because Christians need to prevent Hillary Clinton from occupying the White House.

Pastor Carl Gallups, a vocal evangelical and the author of several books including “Be Thou Prepared” and the upcoming “When the Lion Roars,” spoke with WND on what he believes is the evangelical case for Trump.

Ultimately, said Gallups, the election in November comes down to a choice between two people, and no other considerations matter.

“The point is the juxtaposition between these two candidates is huge,” he said. “I suppose it depends upon what kind of a world you foresee, what kind of an America you foresee, how your conscience will allow you to vote. Gallups argued Christians have a responsibility to safeguard the national interests of the United States, because it is a Christian power and an important pillar of the faith worldwide.

“I am a born-again, Bible-believing, Jesus-loving Christian,” the pastor proclaimed. “My first loyalty is to the Kingdom of God regardless of who is in charge of this nation or what happens to this nation. But that being said, I also recognize this is the largest Christian nation the planet has ever seen since the birth of the church. We are a constitutional republic founded upon biblical principles, Judeo-Christian principles. That is undeniable.
“I know that my ministry and my freedom and the life, happiness and prosperity that I have enjoyed is the result of living under that kind of constitutional republic and the freedoms that it affords.”

He called the choice in November a binary decision between Trump’s nationalism and the globalism of Clinton, who has been revealed in recently released emails and transcripts of speeches as an explicit supporter of “open borders.”

“On the one hand, we have Hillary Clinton, who is an avowed globalist,” said Gallups. “She has spoken against Second Amendment rights, she has spoken in favor of perpetuating the abortion holocaust, she has spoken very clearly about her desire to bring in more Islamic refugees, and has spoken in favor of the borders staying fairly porous and loosening the immigration laws. I could go on and on.”

Gallups also charged Clinton with being partially responsible for the consequences of the Obama administration’s foreign policy, which has seen the rise of Islamic radicalism and the widespread persecution of Christians in the Middle East.

“She’s participated in the Obama administration as secretary of state,” Gallups observed. “She helped to bring about the Arab Spring, which birthed ISIS, which has birthed the entire turmoil in the Middle East. So you have that – or you have Donald Trump.”

trump-penceThe pastor credited Trump with showing dedication to evangelical causes through the team he has assembled around him. He also praised Trump’s selection of Christian conservative Mike Pence as his vice president.

“Some people think Donald Trump could do the same thing that Obama has done,” Gallups said, playing devil’s advocate. “He could – but I doubt it. He has picked as a potential vice president an outspoken evangelical Christian. He has put around him an outspoken evangelical Christian advisory council. He’s put an amazing coalition of Christians around him. Has Hillary Clinton done anything like that? No, the exact opposite is the truth.”

Gallups also believes Trump’s patriotism and love for country is sincere.

trojan-horse-isis“Trump has made promises,” said Gallups. “‘I want to make America great again. I want to build a wall until we get a grip on this thing. I want to tighten up the restrictions on who comes in and who doesn’t. I want to do some vetting. I want to make sure ISIS isn’t coming across our borders to kill us, to destroy us from within, the ‘Trojan Horse’ scenario that ISIS brags about.

“Trump wants to bring industrial operations back to America, lower taxes so those people who have the infrastructure and the wherewithal can create good jobs and strengthen our economy. He says he wants to strengthen our military … the bottom line he’s much more of a nationalist and Clinton is much more of a globalist.”

Trump-Make-America-Great-MAPHowever, Gallups admitted he has heard from many Christians who say they can’t vote for Trump because of their “conscience.” The pastor said he understood the position, but said Christians can’t opt out of their responsibility to do all they can to put the best choice in the White House. After all, he observed, they will also be responsible to their conscience if Hillary Clinton is in the White House in a year. He derided the idea there is some “perfect person” evangelical Christians can write in to be commander-in-chief.

“We’re not electing a pastor or a pope or a priest or a Sunday school teacher,” he observed. “We’re electing the person who is going to sit across from Putin and look him in the eyes.

“You want to talk about your conscience? What are you going to do when you wake up on November the 9th and you didn’t vote or you voted for a third party who had no chance of winning and effectively gave a vote to Hillary Clinton? You wake up and she’s president-elect. The globalist agenda is in full force. Obama’s last eight years will be on steroids for another four or eight years and beyond. What are you going to say to your children and your grandchildren when the America we knew is gone? When the Constitution, First Amendment rights, Second Amendment Rights, Fourth and Fifth Amendment rights, when all of those are gone? What are you going to say about your conscience then?”

Trump will give Christians the “breathing room” they need to rebuild the Judeo-Christian culture.

judeo-christian1Gallups conceded Trump is hardly likely to solve all the concerns of evangelical Christians in the United States. But he believes that on issues such as the Supreme Court and religious freedom, Trump will give Christians the “breathing room” they need to rebuild the culture.

“There is nothing in the decades of Hillary Clinton’s public life that indicates she is some kind of friend to evangelical Christianity,” said Gallups. “Whereas Donald Trump has been a friend to Christianity. And as I said, he at least had the guts to pick an evangelical Christian for his vice presidential candidate.

“The difference between him and Hillary Clinton is like night and day.”

Mr. Reed addressed the over 10,000 students, faculty and staff in attendance and many more viewing online at the Liberty University Convocation, the largest regular gathering of college students in the world.

REMARKS TO THE LIBERTY UNIVERSITY CONVOCATION

(remarks as prepared for delivery)

I am privileged and honored to be associated with Liberty University, if only for this occasion and on this day.  Jerry Falwell, Sr., the founder of this university, was a dear friend who encouraged and supported me in my early forays into the political arena.  He inspired me, in the words of the Apostle Paul, to “follow me as I follow Christ.”

In 29 days the American people will go to the polls in one of the most consequential elections of our lifetimes.   

Not only is the presidency on the ballot, but today as we gather there are probably eight Senate races within the margin of error, and control of the U.S. Senate hangs in the balance.  And because of the vacancy created by the untimely death of Antonin Scalia, a vacant seat on an evenly divided Supreme Court will be filled by the next president.  So all three branches of our national government are on the ballot.

Today I wish to discuss our call as Christians to be effective citizens both of the United States and of a heavenly kingdom that is both here now and is yet to come, offer a Biblical model for that citizenship, and more specifically how that call requires us to think and act as believers with particular reference to the 2016 election. 

As Christians, we are dual citizens—first of the nation in which we reside, and secondly of a heavenly Kingdom.  In effect, we carry two passports: one for the America, and the other for the Kingdom of God.  We are in a spiritual sense not unlike those Jews who hold dual citizenship of their country of origin and of the state of Israel.  Each of these citizenships carries with it certain obligations, duties, and responsibilities that we should take very seriously.

As heavenly citizens, we should pray, read the Bible, attend worship services, tithe, give to the poor, and serve others.  As earthly citizens, we should pay taxes—but only what we owe—there is nothing wrong with taking legal deductions.  (Laughter)  We should be informed, be registered to vote and vote, and contact our elected officials to make our views known on timely issues and legislation.

afa-vote-carryweightJerry Falwell used to say his mission was to get people born again, baptized, and registered to vote.  There was some humor in that statement, but as you will see when I walk through what the Bible teaches us about citizenship, there is some sound theology as well.

I believe there are four main elements of effective Christian citizenship.

First, we should participate. 

Based on census tract data and exit polls, my organization, Faith & Freedom Coalition, estimates that 17 million evangelical Christians did not go to the polls in 2012 either because they not registered to vote or because they were registered but did not bother to show up and cast a ballot.    

Nor is this phenomenon limited to Christians.  In 2012 only 57 percent of adult eligible voters cast ballots and, according to the Pew Research Center, there are approximately 61 million adult eligible citizens who are not even registered to vote.  Christians should act differently.

As believers, we should treat our citizenship as a gift from God and exercise it in a muscular and robust manner, both as a witness to power of our faith in Christ, and to advance righteousness and oppose evil. 

We see a dramatic example of this in the Book of Acts, when the apostle Paul is detained in Jerusalem after creating a public disturbance while preaching.  When Roman soldiers take him into custody, they tie him up and are about to flog him, when he turns to the officer in charge and asks one simple yet profound question: “Is it lawful for you to do this to a Roman citizen?”  Filled with fear, the soldiers immediately untie him, apologize profusely, and escort him to their commander.  Later, when his enemies attempt to have him convicted in a show trial and executed, Paul asserts one of the most cherished rights of a Roman citizen: he appeals his case to Caesar.  We can’t appeal our legal cases all the way to the president, but a Roman citizen who believed their rights were being violated and justice was being denied could request that their case be heard by Caesar.  By this political and legal act, the Gospel message reached the courts of the emperor of Rome.

Paul was willing to die for the Gospel, and ultimately he did.  But he was not willing to surrender the rights that were his as an earthly citizen.  Neither should we.

This is not about the moral character of a given government or leader.  The Romans were infamous for their wanton cruelty, brutality, and barbarism.  That was beside the point.  Paul was a servant of the Lord Jesus Christ—and he used his citizenship as a tool to share his faith in Christ and build God’s Kingdom.

Like modern-day Pauls, we are followers of Christ and citizens of the most powerful nation on earth in our time.  Now more than ever, people of faith must use their moral imagination when it comes to both the possibilities and limits of politics.

american_flagPolitics cannot save the lost or force moral sentiments upon the unregenerate heartBut politics can defend the innocent and vulnerable , advance righteousness, establish the common good, it can protect the rights of the poor, the alien and the sojourner, restrain evil, resist tyranny, and expand the boundaries of liberty and freedom.  It also sets the tone for a culture. 

As former Secretary of Education Bill Bennett has rightly noted, the law is a teacher, acting like white chalk marks on the field of a culture, establishing boundaries of right and wrong, morality and justice.  Martin Luther King said, “It may be true that the law cannot make a man love me, but it can keep him from lynching me, and I think that’s pretty important.”

Which brings us to the 2016 elections.  Some claim that the choice in this election is between two deeply flawed individuals who represent merely the lesser of two evils, and that as men and women of faith and conscience we have no real stake in the decision.

Some, including brothers and sisters in the faith, point to the recently unearthed comments by Donald Trump in a 2005 interview in which he made demeaning comments about women as evidence confirming this argument.  Those eleven-year-old comments were offensive and inappropriate.  As a father of two daughters, including one who is with me here today, I did not appreciate them.  I am glad that Mr. Trump has apologized for them.  As a Christian, I believe, as the apostle Paul wrote to Timothy, that we should treat older women as our mothers and younger women as our sisters, in all purity. 

I also believe that someone who is faithful in small things will be faithful in large things, and one who is unfaithful in small things will be unfaithful in larger things.  As Secretary of State, Trump’s opponent set up a home-brewed email server and, according to the FBI, was careless and negligent in handling classified material.  After a year-long investigation, the FBI assessed that Mrs. Clinton’s email server was hacked by foreign intelligence services, exposing our nation’s most vital secrets to our worst enemies. 

ObamaHillaryLyingtoAmericaWhistleBlowerHillary Clinton also deleted over 33,000 emails, including thousands of emails involving official State Department business, in clear violation of federal law.  She then lied to the American people and Congress about doing so.  At the time, she was the third highest ranking official in the Cabinet, behind only the president and vice-presidentIf someone violates the public trust and mishandles classified material as a member of the Cabinet, there is no reason to believe they will be more faithful in the weightier, solemn and higher responsibilities of the presidency.    

Given this choice, it may be tempting to sit on the sidelines.  One friend of mine says he will write in Peyton Manning for president.  (Laughter)

But I’m not in favor of wasting our votes by casting them for Santa Claus or retired football players, or others who have no chance of becoming president.

We must confront the choice before us and vote for someone who actually has a chance to become president.  We dare not and we cannot surrender our vote during such an important election.  Retreating to the stained-glass ghetto from whence we came, refusing to muddy our boots with the mire and muck of politics is not an option for followers of Christ.  We are called to put away our “my way or the highway” pride, forsake cynicism and negativity, and participate fully as citizens, always cheerful, always winsome, always ready to defend our faith.  We should focus not on the negative, but on what is true, honorable, right, pure, and lovely, anything of excellence and anything worthy of praise, fully prepared to confront the hard choices that Providence presents us in our mission to advance the good and resist evil.

Reagan-Quote-BIn one of the most famous speeches he ever delivered as a candidate or as president, often called the “Evil Empire” speech, Ronald Reagan urged when he addressed the National Association of Evangelicals in 1983 to “beware the temptation of pride—the temptation of blithely declaring yourselves above it all and label both sides equally at fault,” to declare a pox on both houses “and thereby remove yourself from the struggle between right and wrong and good and evil.”

Reagan spoke of Christians at the time who pretended that because capitalism and communism were both flawed systems that both were equally to blame.  The same basic principle could be applied to the two options in this election.  As I will get to in a minute, on issue after issue on matters involving grave and intrinsic moral evil, there are stark differences between the two major-party nominees for president.

So we must participate.  If we do, we can make a difference.  According to exit polls, self-identified evangelical Christians comprise roughly 27 percent of the electorate; faithful, frequently Mass-attending Roman Catholics made up another 10 percent of the electorate.  Together they are the largest, most vibrant, and most dynamic single constituency in the electorate today; a larger force than the Latino, the African-American, and the union vote combined.

Second, we must persuade. 

We cannot enter the civic arena armed only with a King James Bible and an appeal to Biblical morality.  Teddy Roosevelt said a thorough knowledge of the Bible was more important than a college education.  Perhaps he said that because he attended Harvard. (laughter)  But that is certainly not the case in today’s culture.

KJV BibleFor much of our history, the raw material that formed our common language could be found in the Bible, Shakespeare, and the classics of Greek and Latin literature.  Today the common reference points are films, popular music, social media, and television, including the Kardashians.  So we must learn as believers to speak in the language and dialect of our audience.  In that same episode in the Book of Acts I alluded to earlier, the crowd in Jerusalem threatened a riot.  But when Paul began to speak to them in their own Hebrew dialect, they fell silent and listened.  If we will speak to our listeners in a voice and language they can comprehend, we will gain their hearing, if not always their assent.

To persuade, we must know and understand public policy, appeal to the social sciences for evidence of which policies work and why, we should develop a broad policy agenda that deals with jobs, growing the economy, income inequality, education, immigration, human trafficking, criminal justice reform, and ameliorating poverty.  And we must do so while reaching out to those who have not always have felt welcome in our ranks: women, African-Americans, Latinos, and young people.

Honey attracts more than vinegar, and a winsome attitude wins our fellow citizens more than harsh language or angry words.  The book of Proverbs says, “The tongue of the wise makes knowledge acceptable,” and “sweetness of speech increases persuasiveness.”  Bill Rusher said that Barry Goldwater and Ronald Reagan believed in the same things, but Barry said them with a frown and Reagan said them with a smile, and that made all the difference.

Third, we must persevere. 

Bringing our faith to bear to bring social change through political action is a marathon, not a sprint.

passing-torchculture-war3-reaganNo matter what happens on November 8, we will not restore America to repentance or moral renewal in a single election or a single generation.  It will take my entire lifetime and perhaps yours as well.    

The pro-family, religious conservative movement is only about 40 years old.  We are not even in adolescence in terms of the maturation of our movement.  We have much to learn, much to do, and much more to share about who we are, what we believe, and our aspirations for American society.          

Fourth, we must pray. 

The Bible commands us to pray for those who are in authority, not just for those who share our political views.  Paul exhorted that “prayers, intercessions, and giving of thanks” be made for “kings and for all that are in authority; that we may lead a quiet and peaceable life in all godliness and honesty.” (1 Timothy 2:2)  He wrote this at a time when the bloody and venal Nero was Caesar.  “All those in authority” literally means “all”—liberal and conservative, Republican and Democrat.  Contrast the relative quietude, peace, and prosperity that America has enjoyed with the civil unrest, bloodshed, ethnic strife, and general unrest of the rest of the world and ask yourself if our obedience to pray and intercede for all our leaders has not played some role in the success of the American experiment in self-government.

LincolnAbraham Lincoln said, “I have been driven many times to my knees by the overwhelming conviction that I had nowhere else to go. My own wisdom and that of all about me seemed insufficient for that day.”  That is true of not only our current president, but his successor, whoever that may be.  Let us pledge to always pray for their protection, their wisdom, and the counsel of their advisors.

Now, a final word about 2016.  On the issues that matter most to the Christian community, the differences are quite clear, they are dramatic, and they are undeniable.

On the issue of the sanctity of innocent human life, Donald Trump has pledged to protect life from conception to natural death, and he is running on the most pro-life platform in the modern history of the Republican party. 

reagan-quote-abortionHillary Clinton has vowed to do all she can to insure that Roe v. Wade, which imposed the most liberal abortion regime in the Western world on all 50 states, remains the law of the land. She is the first presidential candidate ever be endorsed in a primary by Planned Parenthood, the largest abortion provider in the country, and she is the first candidate in 40 years to shatter the bipartisan consensus that taxpayer funds should not be used to take unborn life by calling for repeal of the Hyde Amendment.  Doing so would allow federal taxpayer funds to be used for the first time to pay for elective abortions under the Medicaid program.  According to the Alan Guttmacher Institute, this would result in hundreds of thousands of additional abortions over the next decade.  These are unborn children who will never know what it means to be held by a loving parent, to be cherished and valued, and to be welcomed into the world.

anti-hillary-pac-postcardIn a speech last year, Hillary Clinton even said that in order to guarantee access to abortion on demand, “Deep-seated cultural codes, religious beliefs and structural biases have to be changed.”  Imagine an individual aspiring to our nation’s highest office arguing that religious beliefs must be adapted to allow for the taking of life made in God’s image.  This is open hostility to faith in advance of a political agenda, pure and simple.

On the issue of religious freedom, Donald Trump supports the Supreme Court’s decision in the Hobby Lobby case giving closely-held businesses and corporations the right to reflect the deeply held religious beliefs of their founders.  Hillary Clinton criticized the decision. 

justiceTrump also is the first candidate of either party to call for the repeal of the Johnson Amendment, an amendment to the tax code inserted by then-Senate Majority Leader Lyndon Johnson that prohibited all political speech by churches.  This provision has been used by the IRS to intimidate, harass, silence, and persecute churches and ministries for six decades, violating the First Amendment right to political speech of millions of Americans.

On the issue of judges, Donald Trump has released a list of 20 outstanding conservative jurists who would likely form the top candidates to replace the late Antonin Scalia on the Supreme Court, as well as fill future vacancies.  No nominee of either party has ever released such a list prior to the election.  Hillary Clinton has said that the only people she would even consider for the Supreme Court are those who agree that Roe v. Wade is settled law.  She reiterated that position last night in the televised debate.

trump-vs-isisAnd finally, Donald Trump opposes the Iran nuclear deal, which would allow the leading state sponsor of terrorism in the world to keep its uranium enrichment program and eventually obtain weapons of mass destruction.  This is the bloodiest and most dangerous regime in the bloodiest and most dangerous region of the world, a regime that funds and trains the command structure of Hamas, bankrolls Hezbollah, props up Bashar el Assad’s bloody regime in Syria, which has killed over 400,000 innocents, and funded militias that killed U.S. soldiers in Iraq.  I believe this agreement poses an existential threat to the survival of Israel.

Hillary Clinton not only supported it, she helped to negotiate it. Donald Trump promises to revisit the agreement as president.  As a supporter of Israel’s right to exist, I want a president who will revise, amend, or strictly enforce this agreement in a way that prevents Iran from obtaining a nuclear weapon.

On these issues, as well as taxes, the repeal of Obamacare, education reform and school choice, the redefinition of marriage, and rebuilding our hollowed-out military, the contrast is stark and undeniable.  The choice is clearIn my view a third party or write-in candidate is simply not a viable option.  And I thought that before Gary Johnson said he had no idea what Aleppo was.

isaiah4bibletextLet me close by quoting the prophet Isaiah, who faced even darker and direr times in ancient Israel.  Surrounded by political leaders who were corrupt and unfaithful, he still offered a vision for Israel filled with hope:

Make ready the way of the Lord

Make His paths straight

Every valley will be filled

Every mountain and hill brought low

The crooked will become straight

And the rough roads smooth

And all flesh will see the salvation of God

If we will see our citizenship as means to witness for our faith, to stand for the right and oppose evil in its many ugly forms, and not just a way to advance our own partisan or personal preferences, then Isaiah’s words can become our prayer, it can lead us to the noble deeds of moral actions, and then with God’s help we can heal our land and restore America to greatness.
